LSX Block CID Question
Folks,
I'm just wondering if anyone here has done any reasonable calculations on how many cubes I could get using the LSX block as my base. Sure, 427 is a piece of cake but I'd really like to shoot for 454. Is this possible?
I have two different routes I am considering. First, an N/A build, high compression (11:1 or so) and sprayed (200 shot). The second route is lower compression (9:1) and single (twin perhaps) turbo setup and sprayed (100 shot) just to get her off the line a bit quicker.
This car will be primarily a track car and only on the street once in awhile. I've searched around here to see if this subject hasn't already been explored to no avail. Thanks in advance.....

Well...I don't know if anyone's actually built with the GMPP LSX block. I am hoping a couple of the engine builders will jump in here....I'm just trying to get and idea of how big I can go without compromising on strength.

IF you go with a tall deck block I wouldn't go past a 4.20 bore if you are going to spray it. Couple that with the 4.5 stroke it will support and you come up with ~499 ci.
Honestly i wouldn't go past the 4.2 bore on any of the motors. If you are looking to really push the boost and go all out, the CI matters little anyway. Remember, the first LS motor in the 6's was a 352 cube engine.
I think the short deck block will support 4.25 stroke so you can adjust the displacement accordiingly.

YES, its a no brainer for this motor (454) and why would anyone go lower than this in a N/A LSX application with a 4.250 bore and 4.125 stroke if I am not mistaken.
If those bore and stroke numbers are off for a 454, a 454 cid motor with the new LSX motor is just walk in the park anyways (and I just have to double check my math with my cubic inch calculator).
I do remember for a fact that 4.25 x 4.25=482 beatiful cubic LSX inches and a PERFECTLY SQUARED MOTOR!

The max bore is 4.500, right?

I was talking to Brian over at LME today about this. Hopefully, we will be building one of these next week for my other car.
According to him, he would go no more than 454ci..
This is for an N/A application with around a 300 shot..

I have a 454 LSx motor going together within weeks. Email me if interested.... Just waiting for the block from Scoggin, the rotating is allready here. It'll have a Callies Magnum 4.185 stroke x 4.155 bore GMPP LSX block, Compstar 6.125 2.000 small journal rod (lighter), Custom made 2618 Wisecos with a ring land that will take 250 hp shot. Heads yet to be determined, but I might put on some BIG Darts -Titanium everything,4.155 bore, with a Vic jr intake. (personal top end).

4.500 max bore is still to be determined when a few of these bad boys get sonic tested.

You can do up to a 4.250 bore probably for NA usage and a 4.250 stroke which will work great in that block with the right parts. With a power adder you might want less bore and more cylinder wall and head gasket between bores. It will depend on how much ring land you need as to how much stroke you can run. Somewhere in the mid 4XX inch range would be better there.
There's no perfect combination for everything.

NO it would work on the short deck. I already do engines like that already just not the bore. The pistons would be very short though and probably not a good bet for big NOS though. NA they should be fine.
