4.10 are a must in a M6 car IMO. Now all you need is a good set of DRs.

That is probably true for a stock or near stock car. I have loved them at that stage.

But it is not a good gear with any real hp. If 1st and 2nd are already useless from a traction standpoint having more gear isn't gonna help the situation.

Yeah, I went 3.90s because with 4.10s and a 26" tire I'll be running out of gear on spray! Have yet to drive it with the gears/9"...very soon though!

If I remember correctly, with my 4.10s I used to have, I could cruise at 80 mph at a little under 2,000 rpm. They were awesome, I had to put my stock rear back in because something went wrong with the posi and I didnt have money to rebuild it, so I sold the complete rear end (big mistake)

how are they a must? they lower your top-end alot..i know an s2000 who got like 4.77's or some REALLY high gears and cant even race above 110 like previously going to 140...plus off the line, ull break ur rear-end...

So true. They are fun to play with but traction is pathetic from 1st to 3rd after adding heads and a bigger cam.

For an M6, they're great if you can slip mthe clutch and feather it out of a dead stop ... roll racing is killer, as well. HOWEVER, you won't beat a car like my setup out of the hole or from a low roll. From a 2nd gear roll, though, you'll murder me. It's all a trade-off anyw3ay ... glad you're enjoying you 410's. They do pull like freight train, for sure.

Livernois heads, G5X3 cam, 8.7:1 DCR here. I get about 19-20 on the highway if doing straight highway driving.

With 4.10's you can still hit over 120mph. Of course, if you're running faster than about 125mph 1/4mile trap speeds, you need more gear. That's a given. But for the typical car on here. it's plenty of gear for any normal race. Races are well over by the speeds that the 4.10 runs out with a lightly modified car. Are you talking about a forced induction car or something?

As for the rear, if you're on a stock 10 bolt and M6, I'd run tires that'll spin some anyway to keep your rear intact. Then if you're spinning, you're not breaking.

I would anyway. That way you can keep your cam in the rev range better. It's one of those debates that has all sides to it. But I do a lot of street driving, so I love the fun of the 4.10.

I'll probably go ahead and do it anyways. I have crappy tires right and my traction isn't that bad, but I'm upgrading to better tires very soon. Plus I'm never at the track, just on the street so whatever.

I don't think any one here as enough horsepower to top out a M-6 car with 4.10's so I wouldn't be worried about topping out the gear

I assume you know we mean in the gears that you'd use. 1-4. Not overdrive gears. They're not used on the track.

If you don't have traction now 4.10's won't help your performance on the street.

Sure they will. As long as he also learns to drive better on the street.
