Default Clearing your Gauge Needles

On a few truck sites I've seen a couple of guys with silverados and such, clear there needles on there gauges with nail polish remover and a few other products. Has anyone done this yet and dyed them another color and if so how does it look (Pictures)?

I may try it on one needle before doing all to see how it turns out. First I need to buy a gauge overlay kit

Our needles are given its color from the back, but I'm not sure if it's from the "white strip" that's fixed to it or from a colored layer covered by that white strip. Or, that white strip may be there just to improve daytime visibility for an otherwise 100% transparent needle.

Anyway, if the white strip is not the color layer, then you should be able to remove it and take some ultrafine grit sandpaper to the needle to scrape the color off. I'll look into this too, some time.

there is a company that sells some pretty cool looking needles for our cars, they look like led needles.

From the needles on my other vehicles I've played with they're clear with the orange painted on first and then white over that so it stands out more since flourescent on clear doesn't stand out too much. Same idea as painting a candy over a silver or white base coat. I had redone the shift indicator in my 88 Fiero with red paint and it looked good. Haven't had the needles off my SS to see what they look like.
