Default New times for the LT1

Went to our local 1/8th mile track last night for TnT to help a buddy with his 68 camaro. My wife gave me a guy's night out because I have been working my *** off and some time away from the kids..lol

Anyway, he made a few passes and of course I got the itch again (been 3 years!!) so I made a baseline pass in the 97 T/A. Car has 141K miles on it now..all original except for a CAI and a hotchkis PHB. Ran on my street tires since its still my DD.

I am going to keep a log of the mods and times associated with them and lets see what we can do with the old girl...383 will be in the works later down the road.

I don't think the mph was too bad as it spun a little through 1-2 but was truckin at the top end for a 99% stocker. Ran a 9.27 at 82.4 mph.

List of the next mods:
Headers and exhaust
DR's
converter
cam

Damn, that is a hell of a MPH for a stock auto! I have almost full boltons and I'm only trapping 82.6! You sure somebody didn't sneak in a cam or something into your car?!

82.4 isn't that big of a deal. It's good and means you could run some good times with a drag radial. MPH is right on for where your car should be.

I wish they did, it would save me some money, etc...haha..I bought the car from the orig. owner and is almost mint..just alot of highway miles...even has the stock cats and O2 sensors as I have all receipts, bill of sale, etc. everything.

The 60' was a crap 2.16 also.

I would agree that it is a great stock time, but I'm slightly doubting its accuracy. When I was bone stock, I was only running 9.21@77.3 with a 2.15 sixty. This was also at a DA of -75 feet so the weather was good. I just don't think the MPH matches his mods and ET. I was deep in the 8s when I was trapping over 81 MPH.

mikes98z, don't take this the wrong way at all, I'm not calling you a liar or anything like that, but I do sort of wonder if maybe the timing was off?

so?

also, i agree that the mph sounds a little high. im runing 8.78 at 82 mph, so that is what im basing my arguement on. i just dont see how you could be a half a second slower than me and running the same mph

Yeah I was kinda of surprised as well a little..but most of the guys out there that are regulars seem to be in line with their setups/times from the other tracks in the area so I dunno. It was flying at the top end and one thing I did do was leave it in D, not OD. It was spinning around 4K through the traps. Temp was about 70 and the humidity was fairly low last night.

The difference you guys are seeing in times is because of his 60. If he had a good 60 he'd be running 8.6's/8.7's too.

I don't think the 0.01 was much of a difference. I'm still think that trap is way too high for a CAI only LT1, and an auto at that.

You wouldn't hit 4th on any 1/8 mile track, that would be a waste of Tranny..
What gears do you have in the back?

merv..I have 3.23's gears...we will see where this goes when the mods go on...my buddy is letting me use his extra set of drag radials and I am going to order a set of long tubes in the next week or so.

I will probably go to the other track and see what it does there (only way to find out)...if the mph is as good or better then its not error on the timing.
