I know some of the LS2 based blocks are using DOD and that was one of the main reasons for swapping the block design to incorporate features for DOD. Let's say I'd planned on building an LS1 motor, but decided to run with an LS2 block instead, could I somehow 'enable' DOD and how effective is it (1-2 mpg or 3-5?). Also, I've heard it's only on the 5.3L models, is this correct and is it adaptable?

DOD is a joke (to my knowledge, only the 5.3L has it). I have it in my GXP which gets a whopping 19.8 mpg (my old 3800SC GTP got 22 mpg unmodified...28 mpg modified ). About 90% of my driving is done on the interstate and to maintain 80 mph, those 4 cylinders are working hard. I'd probably get better gas milage without DOD. Sure, DOD will work and you'll get the fantastic gas milage GM claims, but you can't drive over 55 mph.

Thanks for the informative post-up Dusty. I've been curious how DOD operates and whether or not it's effective these days. It seems like some domestic cars are going to that setup. I was just curious if it's functional on any ls2 blocks or just the 5.3L so if anyone else knows for sure, post up. Thanks.
