I also posted this in the fueling and injection section...

I was driving today and glanced at my wideband gauge and it was readying over 50...So I keep driving and a couple seconds later it goes back down to 12-13ish...It has never done this before and after this incident i kept my eye on it and it seems to be doing the same thing over and over going from 50 down to 13.

Any idea what could be the cause of this? I'm wondering if it has something to do with my fuel pump. It only does this when driving, the car idles fine.

sensor, it says right in the lc1 manual when it reads around 50 its time to replace the sensor

ive got an oddball question,maybe you know kyle,whats it mean if the sensor reads a steady 20....assuming that isnt the actual a/f ratio.same thing as 50?

The sensor only has about 250 miles on it can it go bad that fast?

yup.....if the car runs really obscenely rich for a couple minutes it'll kill it, if it gets too hot it'll kill it, etc......

the good news, is you can get a sensor thats the EXACT SAME part for a couple bucks......its a volkswagen part. I don't have the PN in front of me, but standard makes it, should be available from a local parts store.

i mean its EXACT same pig-tail, same zip tie on the sleeve etc

i'm gonna be on vacation for the next week, but if you PM 98ss2836 he can get you the part number.

I'll do that, i'm getting it tuned on the 18th so i think thats kind of important.

But is it really dead if it only does it right after startup? I just drove around for half an hour and it didnt jump at all.

It ain't dead, but it may no longer be accurate... are you willing to risk your motor and the cost of dyno time over a 40 or 50 buck sensor?

Leaded race gas can also kill them. So can running the engine without the LC1 turned on. Or leaving the LC1 when not running the engine.

My last one lasted quite a while..... even with prob 50 gallons of race fuel thru it.......
I have a new one in there now and a spare on stand-by.......
Now the stock O2 sensors and race gas... Thats another story......

Damn, mine read like 49 one day, and I shut it off and restarted the car and it was fine but does seem to read rich, although I'm pretty sure its accurate. When it acted up I had experienced a bad miss earlier that day, which cleared up after spraying some alky while driving slow. I think a plug got fouled or something, I don't know it runs fine now. My sensors only got a couple hundred miles on it too, guess I better get a spare or two.

Also remember that these controllers don't handle low voltages well. Make sure you are getting at least 12v to your wideband. It's easy to get a drop in voltage from too small or defective wiring.

Try a new sensor for about $50, its a pre-cat 02 for a 02 vw bug turbo. Plug and play, how is the sensor bung mounted in? If its not per innovates instructions i would fix it.

Did you try doing a Free Air Calibration with the sensor out of the pipes. I forgot I set the sensor to do a free air calibration, but forgot to take it out of the pipe and I was getting weird readings where it will show the correct AF for a few seconds then it will flash to something really rich for a second and back.
