you will be fine with the 918's. If you plan on going bigger in the future, you might want to think about getting the duals, just to save yourself some time and $$ further down the road.

here is what i have read....

918 are better for high rpms than dual springs because the hydrolic lifters cant push back the springs quick at high rpms and you get valve float

granted this is at 6300+

but with dual springs if you go solid lifter you solve that problem

honey bees rock dude! they show to be solid as high as 6700 rpm no float!

be sure to get molly pushrods too!

Comp's 918s are a great spring. They should have no problem with a 224.

I ran 918's on .612 lifts with no issues. They are great springs, especialy with light valves and Tit. retainers.

Just the other side of the coin..

Breaking a valve spring sucks..

Its the weak link in a ls1 motor...

If it were me? I'd go with patriot golds?

Inexpensive yet offer the protection of dual springs..

I had the cranes break at 23k miles and the dual spring saved my motor..

I wouldn't or couldn't recommend the 918's...

I've seen afr dual springs new for sale on the net..and I'd consider those..

and like I mentioned earlier the patriot gold setup is priced well too..

Good luck...and believe me breaking valve springs with singles suck...

With duals its no fun either but with singles..its catastofic..(sp)

The internet search and/or the dictionary is your friend.

phobia:

Noun
1. A persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous. 2. A strong fear, dislike, or aversion.

Com 918s are a very good spring. Take care of them and they will take care of you.

I figured thats what you meant...and as most people I don't want to have to take care of valve springs...I want to get in a car and drive it.

The distributor of the product suggested 25K to 30K street miles till replacement.....

When the valve spring broke at 23K miles it was a pain in the *** but it was not catestrophic (sp) BECAUSE IT WAS A DUAL SPRING..

Thats not a phobia...thats the facts...

A single spring might be great if its something you want to think about...

For my money, for the few dollars extra?(maybe patriot golds?) In hindsight I'd suggest to anyone that choosing a dual spring is a smart idea...

For today when your working on PLANNING YOUR MODS..you might say to yourself....I'll watch the springs etc..but 2 years down the road...maybe three...watching your valve springs not going to be top of your list priorities..

You might call the tuner and hear...

The tuners might be moving or busy and then you say to yourself...I've got to do it soon.Maybe I'll find someone else to do it.....you might make a call or two......Well all of a sudden...soon is a day late and a dollar short...

At least with the duals you don't grenade the motor most of the time...(thats the value of the extra cash for the dual springs)

The miles pile on fast and then all of a sudden your busy, you made a couple of calls and you didn't quite get to the springs in time...

Thats real life scenerio..

Thats my opinion...Take it for what its worth...

Not a flame to the world famous fabulous 918's some may have on their car.

Not a phobia...

Just the real life deal sometimes can kick you right in the teeth.

Perhaps that is why you broke a valve spring before.

I realize that real man don't hire people to work on their cars so your opinions worth about as much..

**** happens..the miles pile on and all of a sudden...you're past the mileage...and don't forget...the distributor of the product said...25 or 30K miles..

I'm sure that some guys go out to the garage and double check their springs...Thats not me...I have more important things to do and from what I was told by the time you pay someone to do that nonsense you might as well have someone replace them..

Dual springs remove a portion of the effort to enjoy the car with a degree of similiarity to the way the car left the factory...

Anybody choosing a 224/224 cam wants some degree of reliability. IMO

Dual springs extend that effort to maintain some degree of stock reliability (for many owners) and thats why I suggest it.

Please accept my apologies if my opinion is offending you and your choice..

Good luck to the gentleman asking the question....and I am sure no matter what you will able to avoid the pain in the Butt scenerio of a busted spring...

Single or otherwise..

Single spring breakage is a lot WORSE...on the motor...

All I'm saying is **** happens..

Be aware.

I don't know what you are trying to say here. BTW: I did all the engine work on my car myself, and will do all spring replacements myself as well.

Dual springs are not a license to drive the car longer than the specified time period. You can still have a catostrophic spring failure, even with duals. If you are lucky it will break during normal driving or cold startup. If you are not lucky and it breaks while the engine is under load at a high RPM the weaker inner spring may not be capable of closing the valve in time.

Treat it right (dont' beat on it until it is warmed up) and replace them at the correct interval and the 918s will be fine.

I always let the car warm up to operating temperatures before going over 3 or 4K rpms..

I'm just saying that dual springs covered my @ss and although the 918's might be the greatest single spring ever put on this earth...

Not everyone does their own work...and not every tuner is available at the moment you roll over 19,999 miles?

Is a 918 destined to create a problem? NOPE...

What I'm suggesting is that going with a patriot gold is not that much more money than the 918 and it might save some guys @ss like the dual springs I had on my car when the spring broke..

I'm running 918's with stock 241 heads and the TR224 Cam, probably have 50 passes at the track to date and havent had any problems and thats with occasionaly bouncing off the 6800 rpm rev limiter.

Stay away from Comp Cams products and go with something from Patriot, in the name of quality control....never thought I would hear somebody say that.

Nothing worng with the duals either.

I have PRC duals, which are basically the same thing as the Patriot springs IIRC.

so the patriot duals are a good choice, my goal for the car is a small tr224 cam only with full boltons, and rear with 4:10s once this cam is in (hopefully this spring) i am positive that i wouldnt swap cams again. i just want the best for my ride i can be patient and wait to save up for the extra $$$$ for more quality.

You guys are turning me away from a cam swap all together.

Might as well put in a LS6 or GM Hotcam w/ the LS6 springs and call it a day.
