Street Racing & Kill Stories - Shelby GT-500 V.S. C6

I was in my vette 2night at a local meet and a kid showed up in a new Gt-500 ive been waiting forever to run one and he agreed. We did a couple rolls a 50 and a 60. The 50 was kinda back n forth but he slightly pulled on me and teh 60 he got me by about a car. Im a lil dissapointed i guess but ohh well cant win em all first loss in the new car and it was to a stang :cry:

If it makes you feel any better he was prob making over a 100 hp more than you lol, but good death none the less, just goes to show the new snakes arent as slow as everyone thinks they are!

The snakes havnt been slow for a while. Its just now... They are REALLY fast!
But a F/I ls1 is even faster!!!!!!!!!!!

Naa..Only Evan Smith got a stock Gt500 to trapp 117 mph in the 1/4..

everyone else trapps 112-115 mph..

Spend 1500$$$ and have a decent size cam put in bringiong yo to 420 rwhp. You wont loose to him again till he spends more cash..

3250 pounds and 420 rwhp will be a good combo.

If he pulled you with you running those times, he ain't stock. Stock for stock the LS2 Vettes are about .1 quicker in the 1/4 than the so called 500 h.p. Shelbys.

A quick CAI and tune on a shelby will put it up to 530 rwhp. There was a guy I raced at the track with one from Lafayette. He was running a respectable 11.8@122 with just those mods on Nittos. I am definitely impressed with the cars.

You guys keep thinking the Shelbys are just a joke and slow in stock form. These cars are for real. Sigforty is right. They run mid 12s with a regular (non-professional) driver right off the floor and respond amazingly to mods, not the least of which is the terrible air intake arrangement Ford put on the car. Tires with a CAI and tune will get the car deep into the 11s.

They're somewhat disappointing out of the box due to the crappy factory tune (and weight), but that's easily fixed.

Those gt500s are no joke .I have ran a stock c6 and a stock gt500 and up top the gt500 is the faster car. This was on the street so anything can happen. Put a cam in that c6 and bust his ass

Yeah, those GT500s seem like they can make quite a bit of power.

Kind of funny, over at one of the TrailblazerSS boards where one of the guys said he pulled a GT500 by 3-4 cars up to 120mph and he is only a bolt-on TBSS. For some reason, some people don't think that the GT500s are all that fast. Completely stock, trapping 112 is pretty quick to me.

Update the Gt 500 had tune, CAI, and a pulley he said it made 550 on methanol but did not use meth on me im a lil relieved now i thought he only had intake

By the way, I HATE the fact that a Vette with 370rwhp can trap 117. My buddy's Camaro makes 420rwhp and is trapping the same (and he can drive and gets quite a bit of practice). Stupid aerodynamics and weight....

I AGREE. Vettes are so much more lighter about 700 pounds .He wasn't stock. I seen new stock shelbys killed by C6 . Stock to stock :boiling:

I was told last weekend that there is a local guy with a GT 500 that is in the 10's with only minor mods and Drag Tires...my friend was at the track and looked the car over..[ and he has a 468 BB Chevelle + Procharger= he knows what he is talking about. ]

saw a bonestock vert w/DR's run 11.8 @118 (I think the MPH was that, might have been higher) at Atco on a cool day, maybe 50f or so..those cars are traction limited big time and haul Ass if you can drive, guy was baselining his before he got a shiit load of mods

BTW the GT500's have never been slow for a stock car, not to mention it's rare to own one and not mod it.

More what I would have expected.
I never said the cars were slow, I just said stock for stock, the C^ is quicker. Stock means just the way they left the assembly line, not with slicks or dr's or a pully or a tune or cai.

not callin bs on this but i have no idea why that car would be running meth injection. the kenne bell gt 500 was pumpin out 810 rwhp with a stock fuel and ignition system. that sounds a bit odd to me but that doesnt mean its not true. fwiw get a cam it will wake the car up and allow your other mods to help you more. the gm hot cam isnt a bad cam you might wanna look into that.

A lot of people put meth on cars. They use it in an additional injector or nozzle to help cool the intake charge. I know of a few people here in LA that are doing that with 500 to 600 rwhp cars.

OP: nice death, especially with his mods! Your car is a strong runner! BTW, is your car equipped with the Z51 package?

Indeed, nice death. And remember... The damn thing has a S U P E R C H A R G E R. . . That means any mods done will mean more HP for it than for us... The Shelby is a very respectable car... I cant wait til the day i can take one out...

With your mods, i would think that a Pulley would help him pull on you like that. Get a nice cam, show him what's for.

I wish the price was still $43,000 for the Shelby GT500. Now I've seen stupid dealerships marketing it up to $60,000 and some from Cali to $85,000.........
Those things are awsome, if they were lighter they would be more deadlier very respectable death imo.

no my car does not have the Z51 package i ordered a base car just the 6sp manual i have some plans for it. I weighed it at the track and it weighed in at 3,116 i guess i should have threw in a few options but ill wait till next one. Its my first vette so im just happy to have one
