LS4 Performance - question on res delete

When you guys are taking the resonator out how is it done? Do you have to cut it out and weld in a new peice or are you guys replacing the whole pipe.

if you're not replacing the whole exhaust system, it just gets cut out and a straight pipe welded in its place.
