Stereo & Electronics - New alternator?

So Im thinking I am about to be in need of a new alternator here soon due to the lights really flickering on the dash and the headlights...its almost unbearable.

Where would be a good place to nab an alternator and should I upgrade or go stock? Also..Ive never replaced one before but I do have some mechanical skills..can I do it myself?

BTW I looked at a few sponsor sites and I cant find any for sale..would rather not look through all 100 sponsors for one who sells.

yea im with you on this, i believe mines going down hill too slowly might as well get it replaced and be done with it..!! come on somebody wheres a good reliable place?? autozone, advance, o-riellys, sponsors...etc????

I bought a 160-amp through Afterthoughts Auto (they outsource the labor, but to whom I can't remember), and it went out on me with no warning (at least nothing I noticed). That kinda sucked...I used it to replace my stocker since it was starting to squeal. I was in a bind, so I went to Autozone and got a stock replacement, and so far, so good...going on about 3 weeks with no problems yet. Some have had problems with the remanufactured pieces like this one though, so I'm keeping an eye on it.

I think I'll be having my 160-amp rebuilt by Ohio Generator when I get the time and desire.

Very nice guy to deal with and his alternators are made for heavy duty stuff. I have a 200amp alt from him and it works flawlessly.
