That is badass. I have definatly thought about how I would love to put one in an old Glastron or something. I just dunno if that little SBC would have enough torque.

I had a nice SB powered ski boat here before, but gas is extremely expensive in Hong Kong. Im looking at a new project boat and was thinking of a Duramax or similar..... Ive been googling trying to find info on Duramax swaps into boats .... anyone know any good sites.

crafty, I do not know of any sites specifically about swapping a duramax into a boat, but http://boatdesign.net/forums/ has a lot of info about marinizing automotive engines. http://www.hotboat.com/forums/index.php may also be helpful, there isn`t a lot of diesel info on there, but there are a lot of knowledgeable people and they might be able to point you in the right direction.
770, The LSx series would have enough torque depending on what you are looking for. There were some jets that came from the factory with SBC power. Usually a SBC will push a 18-20ft boat to 55mph, with a jet they are very efficient up to ~45mph on both fuel and HP, it takes a little more HP and fuel to hit 55, and from 55 up it is diminishing returns from the HP you put in and the fuel consumption starts increasing very fast. You can also change the impeller size to allow the engine to rev higher if you don`t have the torque down low. I attached a HP/RPM impeller chart.

Nice Link....
Those guys are a bit crazy, but I LIKE IT!
I loved the quality of the fabrication. Boat construction details (like built in hand grips) were very good.
One of my favorite things that SpeedVision used to carry was JetBoat Sprint Racing. Sadly, it doesn't seem to get picked up anymore. Neither does the Austrailian touring car series, which was a real pick-me-up in the middle of winter when nobody here is racing. Instead, they replaced it with hours upon hours of boring overpriced car auctions. What thrilling TV. (End Rant)
Duramax in a jetboat sounds interesting. I'm sure you could figure out how to make that work. Probably need a pump designed for that rpm / power range, which might be a little bit of work. Not sure what that diesel weighs, but I bet it's not all that light. Might be a bit much for a small boat. Would be interesting though.

What is the power range of the duramax? The charts I posted are for the berkeley and clones (american turbine, legend, dominator, etc) but there are other mfg`s that cater to diesel applications in large heavy boats, like hamilton, doen, and twin disc jets. Scott Jets seems to be used mostly by the aluminum boat racing crowd, but he may be able to help too. http://www.glen-l.com/resources/msjetsup.html

General Specs for DuraMax Diesel: http://media.gm.com/us/powertrain/en...LLY_032406.xls
Plot of power curve (Pickups): http://media.gm.com/us/powertrain/en...ilveradoHD.pdf
Looks like a DuraMax weighs somewhere around 840lbs. http://www.isuzu.co.jp/world/corpora...ne/lineup.html Not sure if that's dry or wet weight.
