Hey everyone, I need some help here. I just installed a new built transmission w/ a 3500 stall today. The install was a bitch (first time) but a good experience. So I fill it up with the right amount of fluid, check for leaks, and take it for a spin. Well, now it does not shift out of first . Has anyone come across this before? The tranny is brand spanking new. Did I do something wrong? Everything works, speedometer, shifter aligned right, no leaks whatsoever, etc. What's going on?

I believe you need to tune an A4 when you stick a stall in there. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure.

Well it would be a good idea to check the fluid level while the engine is running and the trans is in park... sounds like it is still low on fluid. How many quarts of fluid did you install? Was the torque converter dry?

Fluid levels are right on the money (10 quarts) and it should at least shift through the gears without a tune.

I'm not sure, just what I've heard, I'm not too familiar with these electronic transmissions. Have you tried manually shifting from 1 to 2?

check your solenoids. one may have come unplugged.

How do I check the seloniods? Transmission stuff is all new to me.

Reverse is there, works fine.

reverse is usually the first thing that doesn't work if you don't have enough fluid....I know you said you had enough in..but just double checking you...So I wuold say you have enough fluid. I would take the adice of otheres here and get ahold of the guys that re-built it for you. Not that uncomon to have a re-built one have problems...I'm in that boat right now...just put a brand new one in and it is doing REALLY wierd stuff..they are sending me another transmission as we speak....

yes check the solenoids, and make sure the pcm is commanding all the gears. also check all of your electrical connections and wires. does 1st gear feel normal w/ the stall and everything, it just doesnt shift?

yes check your electrical connector and all the wires. make sure your wiring harness isnt pinched and non of the wires are cut

I made sure all wires and connections were clear and away before bolting the tranny back onto the engine, so those are good. I'm still scratching my head, but the builders are also helping me try to resolve the issue. Thanks for all the advice guys.
