Default why would he do that?

i bought my '94 z-28 about two months ago and have been doing a little work on it here and there. right now it is running rich and is not running like it should. i replaced vacuum lines yesterday and came to find out that the guy before me removed the optispark. i know for a fact the it has a bigger cam and he also deleted the egr/air. does any of that have to do with why he removed the optispark?

If he removed the optispark what is the car using for spark distribution?

The stock pcm won't run without the opti, the opti HAS to be there in one form or another. The only situation where someone has successfully removed the opti from the front position behind the waterpump and ran the stock pcm was where he hacked up the opti and fit it the standard sbc location and then ran the delteq system with that. Even if the guy did that (highly unlikely) the opti is still there its just on the back of the intake manifold. But chances are the opti is still there, if hes running the delteq or ltcc systems youl'l either have 4 or 8 coils instead of the single coil that comes stock.

running rich? How do you know this? Whats rich? Did you know that in cold start up mode with the stock computer your car can run as rich as 7.6 to 1 air fuel ratio and still not be too rich for cold start? Assuming the temperature is between 60 and 80 degrees your cars computer will command an air fuel ratio anywhere from 10.4 to 1 to 14 to 1 air fuel ratio. even 14:1 is richer than the stoichiometric ratio of 14.7:1. So whats rich in a cold start? Far more likely the cold start problem is caused by your idle air control motor than the car running rich. Heck it could be as simple as a clogged up idle air passage, spray some throttle body cleaner in there before you go assuming the optispark has been removed. Because I can guarantee you, unless its running an aftermarket computer like F.A.S.T. or MegaSquirt. Your optispark is still there in some for or another. And almost all of the methods of "getting rid of the optispark" still require the optical portion of the optispark (and hence at least 77.7% of the function of the optispark) to still be there right behind the water pump and if the guy did use a system such as delteq to run coil packs instead, you should be thankfull.

As I said check the idle air control motor, make sure its working and that its passages aren't clogged up. btw large cams make cars run rich at idle. Thats a fact.

Do these things before going any further

1. Find out what cam was put in there and know the specs
2. Find out if the car had been rebuilt or bored out to a 355+

Get the car tuned, or else it will run rich.

i thought it was eliminated because with the vacuum line kit i got, one of the lines is suppose to go from the intake to the optispark vent but i did not see any of the factory lines going to the optispark from the intake. so that was my dumb *** stupidity

That's because it's not a vented optispark. It doesn't use the vacuum line. That's the later years.

lol This thread is such a jumble. Is the ECM tuned? Do you have new O2 sensors in it?

Quick Reply: why would he do that?
