Default got a better amp than I paid for

I got a question. I ordered an MRP-M350 alpine amp on ebay. It gives out 300 watts x 1 at 2 ohms and was going to use it to power my SWS-1242 alpine sub (max rms 300 watts). However, they sent me an MRP-M450 amp by accident which gives out 400 watts. The 400 watts is at an estimated 14.4 volts, not 12, which I'm assuming is what we actually use in our cars. So i set up a simple ratio and found that if it gives 400 at 14.4, then it should give 333 at 12. Am I correct and is it ok to use this amp with the Type S?

An amp at peak wattage only put that power out when you have the gain all the way up and your volume at maxed out. Is that what you plan on doing? Probably not. So adjust your gains accordingly and you'll be fine. You could hook a 1000watt amp to it and still be fine if you don't max the gain on it out and blast your radio. In fact it is better to over power a sub then under power it. Your more likely to blow a sub or speaker by underpowering it and turning the volume up because of distortion. You should always have slightly more power than the recommended power handling of the speaker. Then adjust the gains accordingly. OH...very cool that you got the better end of the deal!!! Sucks for them!!
