Clay is only for cleaning the paint. It strips off any impurities like bugs, tar, road grime, etc etc. It will make the paint look a lot cleaner, but not shinier. My answer: Clay then buff for the ultimate shine!

I'm assuming PC means Porter Cable (buff). I've been detailing cars on the side now for about 6 years and the process I use is...wash, clay, PC with mild cutting compound, PC with polish, wax by hand. Some people like to wash it again after they clay, I've never found that to be necessary. I just spray it down, clay it, and wipe it off with a clean towel...one section of the car at a time. If you're leaving fine scratches everytime you wipe it off, so what! You're buffing it after that anyway. Hope this helps.
