Default Conn. folks inside...

Was it my imagination or is Waterbury, CT the white trash capital of the North East?

These folks even made Wallingford folks look refined and well-rounded.

Eight out of ten had thier wallets CHAINED to them, and I saw the BIGGEST beer-bellys ever.

Uh Waterbury is ghetto as hell, and broke as hell. I live there, I know. It is pretty aweful, but cheap rent until I make the bucks as an engineer.

I used to pass over Waterbury (Route 84?) on the way to and from college in West Hartford (parts of Hartford being pretty rough as well ), never actually stopped in though.

Waterbury is like a lot of other cities in CT and MA. It was a very prosperous place that "peaked" during the industrial revolution and has steadily declined over the last 100+ years. It's sad that most of these cities haven't been able to adapt to the modern economy.

No offense to anyone, but I loathe going to Waterbury for anything. As said, probably 80% or more of the people are dirty and disgusting. Id live in hartford far before I lived in Waterbury (and take my chance getting shot as well).

It had three titty-bars and several PAWN & **** shops in like a mile radius.

I saw the factories and warehouses, Ken. You're right.

Ahhh yes the post industrial revolutionary lapse, very well said ken LOL. The Rockville section of Vernon is the same way. Every town has its "low income" areas where the undiseribles of society seem to flock to. The best part is Rockville being the old mill town used to be a hopping happening place, now all it is for the most part is rundown vacant warehouses. also because the warehouses are so old they are historical landmarks so they cannot be torn down.

I live in Vernon, CT and the Rockville section is pretty small in comparison to Waterbury. The Rockville "problem" is pretty much confined to a mile radius, if that. I work in the north end of Hartford, and Waterbury or Rockville look like surbia compared to the big cities.

Yeah, pretty much have those problems in NY. Newburgh, Beacon, Poughkeepsie, Troy, Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo...all succumbed to the same problem. Beacon is doing well again though since its become a bedroom community for all the NYC commuters. And their doing some nice revitilization work to Poughkeepsie. Newburgh's got along way to go, place is pretty much a dump beyond 3 restaraunts on the waterfront.

Yeah waterbury seems to be similar to Bridgeport as far as housing is very cheap and theres a lot of drug areas etc... I personally wouldnt buy a house there if I could help it. In it's defense there are a few areas I believe thats not that bad in waterbury, most people dont see them as they travel through on Rt 84 though. But who am I to judge I live in Waste Haven.

I live in new britain.... it's not that great here either. My street is o.k., and there's a bunch of o.k. areas, but none that I would actually call good. Now Ellington where I grew up, there is no bad part. You can't rent anything in own for under 1500 a month, there is absoluetly zero low income houses in town.. so the "element" just can't afford to live there, the town's way of keeping it clean. The town is pretty muc a great big housing complex now, but the building code now reads that you can't build on less then a 1/2 acre (going for 150K) you can't build a house under 3000 sq feet, and no house can have more then 5 bedrooms.... bottom line, you can't build a house in town for less then 500K now for the most part. That's one way to keep it cleaned up.

Waterbury is bad though, hartford sucks, new haven isn't really any better. If you want to see white-trashville CT, go to terryville, or stafford..... those towns have got to have a high incest rate LOL.

ughhh waterbury *cringes*, my Dad's side of the family is from there but back in the early 40's when it was a respectable, primarily-working class Italian city. Now it's one of CT's biggest crime-filled wastelands.

Yup, I'm in Woodbury (Litchfield county), and it's niiiiiice and quiet... out in the sticks...

of course, they roll up the streets about 7pm, but I'd rather have that kind of area for my family than a hartford, bridgeport, waterbury, etc etc type of area...

Plus the school system is one of the best/top-rated in the state, which is great for my kids as well...
