Default Possible opti Problem Please Help!

Hey guys,

I put my 383 LT4 together about two months ago..it has been running fine. Well when I put the engine in I also upgraded to the MSD opti. Well I thought the oring was already installed when you got the opti, but of course I found out it was not. So today I took the water pump off etc...and put the oring on the opti, when I cranked it idled ok, but when I got the coolant filled and drove it it was missing like hell and smoking bad the hader I got on the gas the more it seemed to missfire and surge, as well as smoke (BLACK SMOKE).
I called myself being careful not to get any moisture in the cap, but I am wondering if I did. If this is the case will the moisture likely evaporate if I let it sit a while or have I likely screwed the opti? Any Ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I double checked to make sure everything was reconnected back properly about the only sensors that were disconnected were the mass aiflow, ram air box sensor and the water pump coolant sensor,
did not take any wires off of cap so that eliminates crossing them...Thanks for any Help

take the opti back apart and check for any corrosion or rust... there is no other option
