Powdercoated LS6 intake(pictures and How-to)
After seeing Birdman's LS1 intake powdercoated I decided to give it a try. My friend handled most of the powdercoating while I did the sanding, polishing, etc. It is somewhat sanded, but more just wetsanded powdecoat as I did not sanding on the actual intake.
Here is a short run down of what we did.
1. Cleaned using carb clean then a pressure washer, we also made sure all the gaskets and the foam pieces on the bottom were totally off.
2. Powdercoat like normal. Although not a lot stuck he went ahead and placed it in the oven at 325*.
3. After about 10 minutes he took it out and tried getting places where it did not stick that well. This was repeated about 3-4 times before he got good coverage over the entire intake
4. After letting it cure like normal(still on 325*) it was removed and let cool.
It looked great, but had some small spots where it had bumps or uneven coverage. It was in need of some wet sanding, so I did that tonight.
5. I wet-sanded the runners with 1000 grit.
6. Polished with Finnese It III, the rough cut.
7. Polish with glaze
8. Wash to remove all the contaminants
9. Quick detail
Although NOT perfect I really like it and Its a different way of painting your intake and will stand up to scratches, etc better than regular paint.
Here are the pictures

Glad it worked out for you. I remember reading a thread about a guy who got his back from powdercoating w/ a hole melted open in the runner near the firewall. I just did mine with rattle cans. I do not know if I will wetsand. Cannot really see your intake well in the pics you provide.

Thanks. Well we only cooked it at 325 which I think helped to keep it from messing up. I will get HIGH res pics when its on the car. Hopefully soon!

Looks sick Chris, didn't you already have something going on with the intake though? I'll have to dig through my pics from beach week last year, but I remember the C.F. FRCs, and I could have sworn that you had a painted intake.... am I imagining things?

Well CF FRC's, and stock intake.
This year it will be painted intake and checkered flag FRC's. I am also polishing/painted the TB, coils, and valve covers.
Gotta switch it up and improve!
