Default napa OEM gaskets

i went and bought a set of OEM metal gaskets from them, and i checked how they are on the LTs i got and they dont even go on. they have metal tabs on the bottom that show "wrong side" "installed wrong" etc. and the bolt holes dont line up. i thought OE gaskets are good to go

Guessing headers?
Headers generally use different bolt holes at the front and rearmost positions than what the manifolds did. So if you want to use "manifold" gaskets with headers you need to punch holes for the front and rearmost bolts.
If you look at the head there are two boltholes beyond the front and back ports, manifolds use the outer holes headers the inner.

what about the tabs? the gaskets wont even contact the headers with them on, and they dont come off. the guys who use oem gaskets have no problems with the stock gaskets.

You can grind off the tabs. Like Dwayne said those are for stock manifolds. But they should work very well with headers too.

If they are multy layers of steel then they are really good gaskets. I think you can make them work. They would be an awesome deal if they did have the holes punched for headers and no tabs.

yea 3 layers.

so i guess ill punch them tomorrow.

theres other holes in the head for headers then on the ends? because the ends are broken off at the head and if i dont need to use thoes holes for the headers then i wont even need to drill them and extract them.

Nope, headers don't use the extra bolt holes at the end of the heads. You can leave the broken bolt in the head if you desire.

they used to use VR but unfortunatally now they went to FelPro I think.
At least the Maryland NAPA's do not have access to VR anymore.

funny how things time out. We are talking about the Victor Reinz LT1 gaskets and what shows up at my door step? ?? 10 Victor Reinz LT1 head gaskets!

I ordered these through my wholesale supplier and what brought me to posting this fact is:

The gaskets cam from Mahle Clevite Inc.

Now I knew that Mahle bought out Clevite but this is the 1st that I have bennefited from that. Bennefit as in Mahle is damn good at making performance parts and it's always been 1 to 2 days shipping when I buy mahle stuff.

Karl
PS: that LT1 head gasket part number is 5898 (Victor Reinz) Good stuff
