Default Prothane Transmission Mount

I just had this installed and it made a good difference. I noticed a slight increase in vibration but it's well worth it. I shouldve done this sooner. I also have poly motor mounts. Next up is a UMI torque arm.

Might just be me..but I switched from an energy suspension mount to the prothane, and the prothane just seems better. The ES one I took out almost felt soft, and I could move it around pretty good.

Also, I built a custom crossmember, and I used two holes in the trans mount on the bottom instead of just one in the center. I figured that should help reduce the twisting of the driveline even more. But we'll see. I havent driven the car yet.

A4, I imagine it'd be better on an M6.

I have read where the Poly tranny mounts have to be 'trimmed'. Is this the case of the prothane mount?

I know that people like to grind down the ES mounts, but I have a prothane and don't know what the height should be(stock) so I don't know if I need to grind down the Prothane mount to keep the right tranny-to engine angle so as not to stress the bellhousing too much.

just bolt it straight on, i wouldnt modify the mount at all.

I used prothane mounts on both cars before I put on my engine mounts from them, never had any problems at all, and I beat on the cars pretty good sometimes.

Ive never heard of the moutn being trimmed? I dont know where you would even trim it...

I had to trim my mounting flanges on the sides a bit, but only because I built a custom crossmember and it hugs the trans. Otherwise, I dont know why youd do it.

My ES mount looked bent out of shape and mushy when I took it out. The prothane one seems to be alittle more stout. So we'll see what happens after some abuse.

I put in the Energy Suspension unit, I got a lot of vibration when i changed mine out. Im not a big fan of it but it does make a big difference when shifting.

When I hear that people are getting bad vibes it seems weird. I have poly motor and trans mounts and I dont feel any abnormal vibes. And Im certainly not stock. This is in an 87 body with the mods in the sig.

My jeep has stiff mounts too and I noticed more vibes in that than in my TA...but not to the point where its annoying.

Maybe its diff. from car to car...or maybe something is alittle out of balance??

I do agree tho...you can really feel a difference when shifting and accelerating.

What you cut off is the 'nubs' on the mount at the top so it's flat, and many people (incl me) leave off the steel plate.

Nothing was trimmed on the prothane Mount. It was installed as is and it's fine. I'm getting additional vibration but the pros outweigh the cons. Then again im used to vibration.
I removed my back seats, removed sound deadening from beneath the carpet. rod/rod LCAs and PHB. And Poly motor mounts and lastly prothane transmission mount. I cant wait for my UMI Torque arm.

OH...the nubs on the ES mount. That mount usually comes with a preload plate that goes on top of it. Im not sure why you'd trim the nubs off though.

The prothane mount doesnt have those nubs. Its flat on the mount side.

I noticed more vibration from the chassis mount TQ arm then the poly trans mount.

Is that for the ES mount or the Prothane mount?
And which steel plate are you talking about? The one that the studs thread into, or the one held on by the rivets?

And for changing the angle of the tranny, I would imagine so as it would increse the height at the tranny crossmember and maybe increase the pinion angle at the tranny?

I put it on back in 2001, I imagine it's the prothane one. They used to have a plate that went on top of the mount up against the tranny. Not sure if they still do, or the nubs for that matter.

es had the plate and then stopped usuing then I believe.

I believe prothane has been the same through out.


and I agree the pro's out weigh the con's (if any) in my opinion.
