Default C5 gas cap door release issue

Has anyone had an issue with their gas cap door not releasing when you press the button? I've been resorting to pulling the back up cord in the hatch area the past 3 fill ups. I'm thinking that I might need to pull the console and clean the electrical connections maybe.

Thanks for any insight.

there is a fuse ,15a I believe, located under the pass side foot well that controls the gas door. Check it.

It all depends on how the plastic retaining chord is positioned when you put the cap back on. I've had it happen to me a few times. I jsut reposition the cap and it's fine.

Same here. If it's just a little off, the door wont open.

Ok guys, I finally got around to checking the fuse. It's fine. Several times now I've moved the gas cap cord around trying all possible orientations that I could think of. Still no dice. Anyone know of a plan C to try next?

I had this problem a while ago. It ended up being the switch. When I took it out, I saw that the switch has two sets of contacts, like it should rock both ways. I turned the metal contacts around and the switch worked fine after that.

It was the switch. I pulled everything out last night and it looks like it came undone when I put in the Hurst shifter. I never noticed it and the directions never mentioned to make sure that connector was still connected when you put it all back together. I must have pulled the console back a little too far.

All better now.

Where is the switch located or what do I have to take apart to find it? Also, the fuse, is it in the passenger footwell or next to the battery? I'm having the same issue. Thanks

Nvm, fuse was fine but the harness was not connected. Funny how people just forget that and then don't ask why it isn't working anymore...

I have had the same issue, I also have to hit my fender to get the pin to release when closing the door. Ive tried to lube it up, but no luck. There is a small spring inside the mechanism that can get rusty and break, it can be replaced.
