Default 355, whitch cam??

im getting ready to build a 355 LT1 since i dont really want to blow mine up i just want to build it before i go to school and i have the CC305 in the motor now but with out looking at the money issue of buying a bigger cam since i already have one would the CC306 be better.... i noticed if you go to thunderracing.com they have two styles of the CC306 and im looking at the one with 230/244 duration, .510/.540 lift and the 112 LSA...

So please none of the," you already have the 305." just tell me what you think would be a better setup with a mild built 355 LT1, thanks..

A custom grind is going to net you the most Hp and at in the rpm range you want it. the cc306 and gm 847 are fine 847 being the bigger but both need to be spun to around 6800 to see full advantage. and both are also old grinds. the extra 100 for a custom is well worth the cost.. in either case you will need to upgrade srpings(if not done already) and i would get some RRs if you do not already have them. Also if you are an a4 you will need a bigger stall( if do not already have) and a new tune.

Not really.

I agree with a custom grind. The right combo, is much better than throwing a cam in a car, and hope it works ... than question why it didn't make such and such, when this person did. The 306 is a great cam, but I feel you are cutting yourself short. Just my .02.

my comp cam cc306 sounds awsome in my car pretty lumpy at idle and it smoothes out around 2000 rpm and thats when the power really starts to kick in combined with my dumped true duals my car sounds like a beast.

The CC306 isnt that bad of a cam...I was DD'ing my car with that and a 34-3600ish stall for a few months. it makes good power and past 3 and will keep pulling to 6600ish. But if i were to do it again i would go with a custom grind to match my supporting mods.

Depends on how well your heads flow. The cam should be matched to the heads. If you can't flow enough to support the GM847, then why bother?

BTW, crane now makes the GM847 cam:

Be more specific. There are several cams mentioned here.

Crane always made the gm847.

As for the original poster, what are the goals of your car. No one can reccomend a cam without knowing what you want out of the car.

I believe the GM847 is 234/242 and with 1.6RR's you are knockin on the door of .600 lift, its like .575/.595 lift or something i can't remember right now. Just a bit bigger than the CC306. I'm putting in a GM847 this summer into my 355. JMHO

I'd personally go with a custom grind, the LE2 would be a good choice considering your interested in the CC306, the LE2 is basically the same but makes more power.

Not to hijack thread, on an A4 Car, CC503 w/ 3.73's and stock stall ok??

LE2 cams make better power on LE 2 heads because they are designed to match each other. Just because it makes more on a worked head doesnt always mean it'll make more on a stock head. Lloyd himself told me to run the 847 when i was asking for a custom grind.

Another cam to consider is the XFI grind 230/236. Very great cam with proven numbers.

I made 370rwhp with my set-up with a 3.90 spool'd 9" and some HEAVY *** Z06 wheels. My car traps @ 115 but hasnt gotten outta the hole to save it's life yet.....damn nitto's
