the other day im getting on the interstate in my car. there isn't hardy any other cars around so i decide to open it up and see what it'll do. i get up to 145 and my temp gauge is nearly in the red and the check gauge light comes on. i let off of it and it slowly starts to go back down to normal. it was only about 60 degrees outside so i dont think it was because of the temp outside.
does anybody have any ideas on what caused this? my car has 75k miles on it

low coolant, bubble in the cooling system, water pump, airflow blocked around on the radiator, thermostat stuck shut... could be any number of things.. You didn't take the air deflector off the underside of the nose of the car I hope?

no it hasnt lost any fluid and all the houses are good. when i bought the car teh air deflector under the nose was hanging down. i dont have any of the clips for it so i ran zip ties through where the clips are suppose to go.

I think I see a potential problem. The picture in your sig gives it away.

You have an after market grill cover. It may restrict airflow more than a plain grill.

it had a problem with doing this in the summer, but i thought it was just because of the weather. somebody said i should get my radiator flushed. do you think that would fix it?

So you were doing 145 MPH? And while you were going that fast it overheated?

If so it's for sure either your water pump or thermostat. Any other problem and it wouldn't have overheated at speed.

My car showed the same symptoms and it had a stuck thermostat. I would try to go fast to cool it down (more airflow into radiator=cooler) but it would only get hotter and hotter.

Sry, I'm a T/A guy, I don't know the Camaro styles. Your stock grill could be restrictive. I've seen the grills with the billet aluminum bars. They would flow more air and they look cool, not that your stock grill doesn't.

Thanks for the compliment. It's 100% photo-shopped. I don't have my T/A yet, but I'm saving and will have it soon. That's how I intend to do the paint... lightning bolts and everything... get it? lightning... Shock Hawk

not to be a dick and all, but considering how similar the cars are... why would you assume the camaro grille flows any air at all?

your T/A grille doesn't flow any air worth a shit except right into the intake itself, correct?

even with no grille at all the holes behind it are still blocked with compressed styrofoam and have very little if any flow capability even with the random holes at the top that they have, which will do nothing more than get your engine bay a bit dirtier a bit quicker :)

hey, I'm just trying to help. If your solution works, then it's heat vs. dirt.

Hey, make sure your cooling fan is working properly. I know on another car I had, the electric fan was 2 speed, and the 2nd speed wasn't kicking on, causing the car to run hot and it eventually burned a groove in one of the heads costing me all kinds of money...so don't let it go without fixing it, and test the cooling fan...not that I know the procedure...

i think im gonna buy a new thermostat. its not losing any coolent and all of the hoeses look good. should i buy another stock thermostat or go with a 160,180 degree?

I'm telling you, find out how to test your cooling fan properly and do it.

doesn't matter what grill is on there... the impact foam sits right behind it. the only way we get air to our radiators is from the dam underneath. if you aren't losing coolant, your t-stat is stuck shut more than likely. i have a stock t-stat if you need one laying around.

how much do you want for it and how many miles does it have on it
