car got hot
the other day im getting on the interstate in my car. there isn't hardy any other cars around so i decide to open it up and see what it'll do. i get up to 145 and my temp gauge is nearly in the red and the check gauge light comes on. i let off of it and it slowly starts to go back down to normal. it was only about 60 degrees outside so i dont think it was because of the temp outside.
does anybody have any ideas on what caused this? my car has 75k miles on it

low coolant, bubble in the cooling system, water pump, airflow blocked around on the radiator, thermostat stuck shut... could be any number of things.. You didn't take the air deflector off the underside of the nose of the car I hope?

I think I see a potential problem. The picture in your sig gives it away.
You have an after market grill cover. It may restrict airflow more than a plain grill.

So you were doing 145 MPH? And while you were going that fast it overheated?
If so it's for sure either your water pump or thermostat. Any other problem and it wouldn't have overheated at speed.
My car showed the same symptoms and it had a stuck thermostat. I would try to go fast to cool it down (more airflow into radiator=cooler) but it would only get hotter and hotter.

Thanks for the compliment. It's 100% photo-shopped. I don't have my T/A yet, but I'm saving and will have it soon. That's how I intend to do the paint... lightning bolts and everything... get it? lightning... Shock Hawk

your T/A grille doesn't flow any air worth a **** except right into the intake itself, correct?
even with no grille at all the holes behind it are still blocked with compressed styrofoam and have very little if any flow capability even with the random holes at the top that they have, which will do nothing more than get your engine bay a bit dirtier a bit quicker

Hey, make sure your cooling fan is working properly. I know on another car I had, the electric fan was 2 speed, and the 2nd speed wasn't kicking on, causing the car to run hot and it eventually burned a groove in one of the heads costing me all kinds of money...so don't let it go without fixing it, and test the cooling fan...not that I know the procedure...
