Default Installing motor and trans

Does anyone know if it is possible to install the motor and the trans from the top. I putting my car back together, and my buddies seem to think they can put the motor and trans together and get in from the top. I say no way its impossible, but were gonna try it. I just want to try it so i can laugh in all three of their faces and say i told you so. I just want to put it back together the way it came a part.

Ive done it with an M6 but never been able to with an A4. It is a PITA tough, you'll have to get under the car and wiggle and move the trans because its going to hit somewhere. Cant hurt to try it though.

I put a couple in from the top. With PA kmember it was a little tight. OK.... a lot tight around the bellhousing. With stock kmember we unbolted the pedestal/motor mount and it went it easy. It will give you a little more room if you wait to install the pulley. Good luck!

I've put it in together from the top several times. It is easier from the bottom especially w/ a lift but the top isn't hard

You will have to take off the the motor mounts that go to the k-member, and have to adjust the chain a couple of times when you put the motor and trans in. Make sure you have at least two people on the bottom working the trans, two people on both sides watching for clearance, and one person running the cherry picker. Thats how we did it, and it worked all right, you will have to put the motor mounts that go to the k-member on to the motor before you put it as wel. Good luck to all that put the motor and trans in at the same time from the top.
