Default Car business question

My friend is moving back to Houston from Anchorage, AL. He plans on selling his old beater before he leaves alaska and wants to fly into Houston and by a car within a couple days. He plans on spending low 20s and paying for it outright, no financing. I've bought cars with cash frequently, but never that expensive. I told him he should just withdraw a stack of 100s and go get it done. He said he would rather use a personal check or bank check.

Is a dealer going to release the car to him with a personal check or money order or is he going to have to work a deal, go get a certified check and come back the next day. Reason is he won't have a car during the day to go look, we will be shopping after work, so the bank is closed....

Major dealerships will release the car on a personal check.
