Default sensor like plug in on the back of the alternator? what is it

im swapping in an ls1 into my jeep. im using the jeeps wiring so i can use the jeeps guage cluster for the voltage. i havent attempted any kind of hook up yet, i have just looked the alternator over.

i see that there looks to be a connection for a negative wire, then theres a sensor like plug. what is the point of this sensor like plug? is this the positive terminal?

There should be a stud on the back, this is the positive output. The plug harness part I am unsure of exact functions, but some of it leads back to the PCM I believe.

its a signal wire that basicly tells the alternator how much voltage to regulate I believe, if its not hooked up your alternator will not charge your system, that part im sure of
