Default Picking out a cam/longtube combo for the z06, few????s

Im putting together a cam/longtube combination and cant quite figure out which one suites me best.

My number one goal originally was drivability, but after seing how a friend of mine's idled with a magic stick 4 cam, I think i can get pretty big with the cam.

Are lg headers the best? I dont mind spending 1k on street headers, but is the extra 600 bucks for the pro race headers worth it?

thanks

Dave

Are the LG pro longtube headers worth it?? I say absolutely yes. When I bought them the street series weren't an option. Many people out there are very happy with the street series, good power, and great price.

You header choice should be based on how much are you looking at doing? To make the most of a cam you need an exhaust that flows. Pro series out flows the street series by a fair amount. 3" pipes on the pro and 2 1/2" on the street series. If you are going to go cam only and never do heads or Forced Induction then the Street Series in my opinion would be fine and you will save money. If you want heads and/or are thinking FI down the road get the Pro longtubes now to make the most out of your combo. Good luck !!

As far as a cam choice, have you considered the g5x3 or g5x4 ?? You can look at the graph on lgmotorsports.com and you will see a c5 zo6 longtubes, and cam only making 432 rwhp and tons of tq. That was with the g5x3. The g5x4 would make even more power. As long as the tune is dead on big cams drive very nice.

I'll pm you when I get my car back from LG Motorsports. or you can read the thread that I will post on my impressions of the idle, drivability, wot, and overall performance.

That would be interesting. I would like to see the results. I am use to driving a mid 120s mph car. I do not like being a mid teens car.

Honestly, I am not sure of the rout im going. I just picked up a nitrous kit, but I also have the money set aside for the APS twin turbo kit or a solid h/c/i swap.

It seems like after the price of everything i can make the same power with the APS twin turbo kit (if not more) then i could with a h/c/i swap and it would cost the same, or close to it.

If i were to go with the aps twin turbo rout, i would retain stock drivability but would have to deal with the idea of forced induction and the engine blowing up. In addition, with any turbo set up I have read up about, there has always been some kind of maintance problems (lines breaking, turbos and oil feeding problemts etc). With an lg Afr h/c/i swap you are looking at great power, but at what expense? Rough idle and surging?

I have to drive this car everyday. So i need some reliability as well as creature comforts.

I have an itchy finger and cannot wait to pick something up in the next day or so.

I would definatley push the LG Motorsports H/C/I and pro longtube header pkg. I will have to PM you when I get my car back. I will have a lot of information to post after the 1200 mile drive home. The turbo kit sounds SWEET too, but the idea of forced induction on a stock internal motor NO WAY. Even on low boost.

For 7 grand you can get afr 205 heads, your choice of X series cams, pro longtube headers, and a 90 mm intake. If my math is right that includes valvetrain upgrades and install with tuning. Talk to Bobby at LG Motorsports 1 972 429 1963 he can give you all the info you need.

It came off of your z06?

Does it matter what year they came off of? I know when i was going through the order form, it gave me the option of 97-2000 corvette or 2001-2003 z06.

Does it matter?

I just put American racing headers and a 4:10 gear this weekend and I love the se headers. They a much cheaper than the LG also. Only cheap in price though.

Can't go wrong with proven power. LG Pros or Kooks are a great choice. I have Kook's 1 3/4 w/ gutted cats. Sounds amazing!

call TSP... i just installed a torquer v.3 and there coated longtubes. to be completely honest i was amazed at how easy they went in. no fitment problems at all! they may not be made of stainless steel but c'mon ...how offten do you see a vett with rust problems. mine never sees rain or salt so im good. tha cam is nice! sounds like an animal and drives really good for a cam of that size. i havent even tuned it yet and it idles fine. surging is an issue but that will be corected with tuning.
i get it tuned tomorrow so im not sure on power yet, but i like what i feel.

YO 50 DAVE,......I just completed a head/cam deal from Thomas Wong in Portland 0r. 503-784-9345 Its a three hour drive for me and the best decision I made since I bought the car!!! He designed the cam for me over the phone while I was telling him basically the SAME thing you just said! I do not want to turn a $52k into a $10k car so here's the deal FIRST (1) no shortcuts!! Melling racing oil pump,.....Hardened push rods,....New timing chain (LS2),...New LS7 roller lifters, springs,....NEW BBK. 80mm throttle body $319 !!! @ www.neweraperformanceparts.com was SUCH a good deal!! I did a whole bunch more stuff but this is getting a little longer than I wanted. what I have is a BULLETPROOF motor that will take an awful lot of punishment!! there are a whole lot of cars out there with a lot more horsepower and you know what??? There WILL ALWAYS be. I'm putting about 425hp to the tires!!! and I have the WRONG headers I'm going to sell my bassini system to someone and by the LATEST good header American racing headers!!! now the specs on the cam is 228/232,.....on a 112 LSA. I can drive long distance AND have authority on the way!!!

Why not just get the LG Pro longtube headers and then you will have the correct exhaust. Had LGM's headers since 2005 and no complaints unless making too much HP/TQ is something to complain about. 480+ rwhp and 454 rwtq on stock cubes (346) N/A all the way.

Well,

I had to cancel my trip to Amsterdam, so i spoiled myself.

I got the afr 205s and arp bolts, fast 90/90, G5x3 cam with the 112 lsa, pulleys, 160 thermostat, LG pro long tube headers, and a varaam intake.

Wonder what this will do with my nitrous kit

Im actually going to hold off on installing that to see how the car runs without it.

Hopefully this will be here by friday, and the car will go into the shop on monday.

Way to go, you will not be disappointed. Out of curiosity, who did you place your order with? Bobby or Anthony ??
