Default Looking for an inexpensive, hard hitting amp/dual 12" combo.......

hey all....

need some professional advice/oppinions please. i'm looking for a relatively inexpensive dual 12" sub & amp combo. i've had a couple different setups over the years, but it's been a while and i'm out of the loop. the best i had was a complete kicker comp setup that was VERY loud and clear!

also keep in mind, this is not a hatch, it's my trunk model mustang.

here's the subs i was looking at....

kicker comp vr cvr12 d4....$146/pair!
http://cgi.ebay.com/2-KICKER-CVR12-D...ayphotohosting
do i want 2 ohm or 4 ohm?

speaker box...
sealed or ported, and or vented???

amp....
mono or 2 channel?
bridged or not?

if i run a decent size amp/sub combo like this, will my pioneer head unit be able to power the 6x9's & door speakers enough to hear them or will i Have power them with a seperate amp to hear them? or should i power just the 6x9's with an amp? still trying to keep the cost at bay too!

thanks for any info/input you guys can provide me with.

Default Highly recommend!!!!!

Yhe comp vr's! I bought mine over a year ago and they raise hell! I have them in a sealed box, the ported would be ideal if you have the space. Man you will not be let down! But you must have an amp that can hadle them, i they need a good break in period. For that price get all over it, i paid that much for one of them. check out my link

what do you recommend for an amp then? i understand that it all comes down to the amp and i'm willing to pay a bit more for it with the money saved on the speakers.

but, 2 ohm or 4 ohms for the subs?

i'll check out your link next.

Edit*....Very clean hatch area!!!

Both of those are good, the 1000 is a better choice. I am running 1000 watts on my 2 and they are taking it just fine. The kicker amps are nice but they draw alot of current. Make sure you use 4 ga wire and a good ground connection.

Also, Look at the older KX models on ebay as opposed to the ZX if you are looking to save a bit of money. Both are great amps... If money isn't a huge issue and you can spare about $100-$200 extra I would suggest moving up to some 10" or 12" solobaric L5's or L7's. I promise it will be worth the extra cash. And you could use the same amps you are looking at.

yea i'd love to, but i'm strapped for cash right now and can only afford the rounds ones. i still need to get a box for them too.

can anyone give some input on weather i need an amp for my interior speakers too or will the pioneer 65W x 4 head unit be ok? i wont be running the subs at full power usually anyway, so my thoughts are to try it first and see how i like it. input would be appreciated though. thanks.

The 12 hits harder, I would only go square if you are getting the L7, rather than the L5. The CVR12 are a little easier to push and work well in small enclosures. As far as your interior speakers, check out Polk Audio, Infinity and Kenwood Excelon. I am running the Kenwoods, a set of Components up fron and a pair of two ways in the rear. I love them! Good SQ at all volume levels, on various types of music.

Also try to get the subs in dual 2 ohm, the dual 4 forces you to get a 1 ohm mono amp which kind of ties your hands. If you can find an MTX 801d or 1501d, these are great amps, very underrated! Clean tight, deep bass, little distortion and they match the color scheme of the CVR's. I have an 801d in my Altima on 2 more CVR's.....you can't go wrong!

nice info, but i guess i've got more to learn because for some reason i thought a mono was the way to go for subs. i'm calling kicker today to get a little more input. i'll look into those other amps today too.

Don't go for Lanything, when you get to that pricerange, there are many better subs for the money.

get the duel 4 ohm so you can wire it down to 1 ohm. and get a mono amp. I would prefer a Hifonics Bxi 1200d, it would be a very nice setup with that combo. Ported or sealed either way itll be nice and you wont be disappointed.

Not true at all.
Two dual 4 ohm drivers can be wired to a 4 ohm load as well.

thanks for all the input guys. still deciding because after finding out box dim's, i can only fit 10's now. looking at the cvr10's with zx750 amp right now. really wanted the big thump of 12's, but my inside height is only 12.5" MAX! i'll talk to an installer to see if he prefers 2 or 4 ohm, but a really knowledgable guy suggested i stick with the 2 ohm and bridge them, and use a mono-amp, no cap required for that amp, and a sealed box too, expecially since space is limited.
