Alpine is not junk, far from it. But it's not the super top elite brand some think it is either. It's just that the 06, 07 model head units have less features then the older models. Alpine is pushing their external processors, so they removed most of the built in processing from their head units.

I'm biased towards JBL, but there are still plenty of good brands out there. You are going to get almost as many different recommendations as people reply.

yes, but would you agree to be sponsored by a company who's gear you did not believe in ?

an example here..
I just competed with my daily driver Buick Regal, which has JBL Power Series components which cost $425 a pair, and a $230 Power 12" sub. All ran off of the entry level GTO series amps. I came in 2nd, within 4 points of 1st. 1st place went to a car using a Alpine F1 status speakers, valued at $3500, and I'm told I actually had a higher SQ score, he just edged me out with install points.

That had to suck Mike!!! Personally I'd rather have the better SQ anyway!!

For the record Alpine does not suck...again...it is noty the end all be all of car audio some people make it out to be but definetely not junk!!
The first thing...as always...we need to know is what is your budget and what kind of music you listen to as to what kind of sound you want this system to produce. There are a TON of variables when it comes to sound systems and cost. You don't have to have the most expensive system...as Mike has shown...to have a great sounding system. Give us a budget and sound requirements and we'll try to help you out!!

Don't touch Alpine subs, they're a horrible value. And why would you buy subs and tweeters? And what's your budget and goals? Anyone can just name equipment, but what good does it do? Like this:

Speakers: Rainbow SLC265
Speaker amp: Eclipse XA2000 or Pioneer PRS-D4100F (Pioneer would be bridged)
Sub: Fi Q12
Sub amp: Hifonics BXi1206D

Do you feel enlightened?

The type R can be had for cheap and is a good sub.....Look into diamond audio and mb quart for speakers. Diamond has some decent priced subs also. Hifonics as said before ia a fine budget amp that I would probably run for a budget system. I have a pioneer h/u and love it. Lightning audio has pretty good wiring kits for fairly cheap.
