Default heads/cam or nitrous....

Not sure if this belongs here but anyways, I have a full bolt-on 99 Camaro and am looking to take it to the next step.

Question, should I go with heads/cam or go with a 150 shot of nitrous. Keep in mind that I have to pass emissions every two years so I can't go with a big cam. Which set-up would be faster?

Like I said, I already have all bolt-ons and 4.10s and I'm looking to get into the 11s.

Nitrous will get you there faster...but if I did it again I would have done my cam swap before I did my nitrous.

Why are you wanting to choose between the two? Go both!

I plan on going both one day....but I'm modding my Trailblazer SS as well so funds are being split between the two.

Maybe I will just go heads/cam now and add the nitrous later.

What kind of rwhp are you putting down with the heads/cam/nitrous? what size shot?

I haven't put it on the dyno. That will be in a few weeks, when we get my buddy's dyno installed. Still have to dig the pit and install it. Now it's tarped in the garage on a trailer.

But I'm running a 100 shot for now. I just put it on a couple of months ago. My M6 has been messed up since before I put this h/c swap on, so my times are bad. 12.5 on street tires and over a second between gears. After I put the 4L80e swap in, we'll see what it'll do on the track.

Might as well go bottle first. A 150 shot on a stock car will run with any heads/cam car you race.

I just sold my full nitrous kit to go heads/cam. I don't think I'll regret it for a couple reasons.

1) Its very easy to get greedy with the nitrous shot size. Plus I just didn't feel like I wanted to roll the dice on a stock 90k+ mile bottom end. I know several mambers on here do it & are perfectly fine, but for me I just can't risk it & would rather wait to spray it till I get a forged 346 short block.

2) If you go with Heads/Cam you will always have that power on tap. No refilling bottles & no having to activate a kit to get your power. That was what pulled me back to the all motor side until the bottom end is built to handle the juice without worry.

In the end its your car. So only you can choose what route to go. Good luck which ever way you choose.
