i am looking for a way to remove painted on pin stripe that is on top of the clear coat. will intensive polish by menzerna's work with a PC?

If it works it will probably smear the paint due to some heat build up. If I were doing it I will get some mild wax/grease remover(good stuff from a paint shop) and slowly go over it, if and only if it's actually on top of the clearcoat.

Easy off oven cleaner will take it off let it sit on the car for 15 min make sure you spray it heavy and close it will not mess with your clear or nothing. It will come right off with a cloth. Oh and do it in the shade or in the garage somewhere where its not hot.

how long has it been on there? You may end up with "tan lines"

To get it off, you can also try a reducer or thinner.

its been on the car for a while. probably 5 years if i had to guess. i may try that oven cleaner and then use an intensive polish if i see a line from where it was. i am not sure what else to try...

also, i am not familiar with reducers. what is the difference between that and a thinner?

pretty much the same, reducers with what we mix with paint. Thinner is regular stuff.

And if its been on there that long, u might run into some issues taking it off. Just keep in the back of ur mind, if u do take it off u may be into a repaint

Guys use the oven cleaner on Goldwings all the time to remove unwanted graphics thats on top of clearcoat. I've seen it done. Yes it will leave "tan lines" if the paint has faided since the graphics were applied. It will NOT harm the clear coat

only issue is this isnt a graphic being held on by an adhesive... the stripe is painted on and old, by now the solvents in the pin strip paint may have ate into his factory clear underneath.

Only other thing i can think of is to try to "cut" it out with like some 1500-2000grit and polish the panel back out. Problem there is, u will have to be extremely carefull not to ***-hole the clear around the stripe while removing the pinstripe.

I agree with samd_ind ive used oven cleaner too. It will leave tan lines no matter what, but they are just slightly hazy because that area has been protected by the pins stripe from uv light. If you use thinner or reducer you WILL MESS UP THE CLEAR.. DONT USE THAT. Just try the oven cleaner if and if you want you can even try wet sanding with like 1200grt and then buffing. Thats just way more laborous.

well i will try to find some oven cleaner. i am not sure what kind i will use yet. after hopefully the faded lines will at least partially come out with some intensive polish.

i am seeing two different kinds of easy off oven cleaner. one is a fume free max oven cleaner and th other is a heavy duty oven cleaner. i don't know how safe either one is but i think i am going to try the fume free first. i think it is a bit more mild. any suggestions?

Man ill post the one i use i have it at the shop and ill check tomorrow its a yellow aerosol can that says easyoff in black with a white outline. But ill give you the exact details tomorrow.

the yellow can is the heavy duty stuff i believe. i am thinking the fume free is in a blue can or something like that.

i just want to let everyone know that this stuff works. i used the brand "easy off" heavy duty (in a yellow can) oven cleaner and it stripped my painted on pin stripes without a problem. It did not damage the clear and you can not even tell the pin stripes were on the car unless you are at a perfect angle under a florescent light. however, a PC with some polish should quickly take care of that. i was expecting the paint to be a different color but it turned out awesome. thanks again!

Try some Mineral Spirits fisrt. If that don't work well enough then Easy Off Oven Cleaner will do it. Although I don't like to use Easy Off unless it's a last resort.

i couldn't even tell my clear coat faded at all. i removed the pin stripes and then washed the car. it turned out great.
