Default Is there a wire you can disconnect in your car to delay theft?

I just bought my car (99 TA) and I keep reading about people getting their cars stolen. So I was thinking, is there any wire(s) somewhere in the car that you can just disconnect to confuse and delay thieves from taking your car?
The battery wires might mess with the computer, so no.
Maybe a wire that isn't too hard for the owner to just connect it and disconnect it quickly and that it doesn't erase anything on the cars computer...

I'll be installing a viper system in my car soon, but i need something to keep my mind at ease for the meantime.

Your suggestions would be appreciated.

just pull the igintion fuse, or fuel pump fuse or somthing like that. then everytime you get in, put it back in. put it in the glove box or somthing like that. chances are even if they do see it there, they wont think to plug it in. i keep extra fuses in my glove box just incase one blows. if they hot wire it, it wont start. everything in the car will still work but it wont start.

Fuel pump relay would be easy to pull, it's in the fuse block under the hood.

I'm a PCM fuse kinda guy myself... Used to do that every time at the airport. It's just inside the drivers' door on my 94Z.

i stick with the fuel pump fuse. that way it ***** with their heads when they get in and try to start it, everything works like it should but it wont start. and if it does, it wont run very long.

VATS stops the common thief.
the common thief needs a flatbed or trailer.

the professional thief (or one that knows how to get around VATS and has a tool to do so) still has to invest a good amount of time to bypass VATS.... so that limits the cars that can be stolen... airport long-term parking spots are a favorite though.

that resistor in my key for the T/A can be bypassed EASILY. like 10 seconds or less if you know what you're doing. if they want it, they'll take it.

granted, an alarm isn't a guarantee that it won't be stolen, but it is a better deterrent than nothing. nothing = factory security system(s)

i also like the feature on my alarm that alerts me if any sensors go off if someone's messing with it, i'll know about it.

I ran a wire off one side of my fuel pump relay to a switch hidden in the car that I can still reach from my seat. Flip of the switch and the car won't crank (or will die if already running). Took 30 minutes, and no messing around with fuses. I got an insurance break too when I was telling my agent about it, she said it qualified as a manual disabler which gives you more points than an automatic one like an alarm.

ok. explain.

because you either dont know about the delay timer and assume you can go thru each key combination quickly...

or

you assume hes going to get the right key combo the first time.

the only other way around it is to reflash the PCM, and ground the starter relay... then you can steal it like any other GM.

the factory fuel cut on my 02 T/A depends on a resistor in the key. if you bridge the two wires in the column harness with the proper resistor, it "thinks" you're using the right key. i had to do this on my friend's Camaro because his key was messed up. if you know how to bypass it, it can be done in just a few seconds.

i'm not talking about using keys, a thief isn't going to use a key to steal your car. they're going to break the column plastic and bypass the lock cylinder all together.

It would really suck to have to get out and pop the hood to take it out and then put it back in everytime..

But it would suck less than coming back to no car.

I lost a college bud in Baltimore from that. He was over his chics apartment. Alarm went off, he went out to confront/stop or to scare em off.. etc. Got stabbed 3 times and died from the wounds.

Shrugs. Just makes me wonder what I would do..

When you go to see what's going on, you shouldn't go to "confront" anyone. You should go armed with anything you can and have the "I'm gonna send you to the ******* hospital" mentality. Go out and proceed to do so while your girl calls the cops.

Life's a battle. Sometimes you just have to kill a ************ to defend something/someone.
