Default Slick Shifted T56

I'm wondering if there are any 'slick' shifted T56's here on LS1 Tech? In days gone by with the Muncies and Super T10's they ground everyother tooth off the syncros along with other internal mods to allow the trans to be shifted under power w/o the use of the clutch. Just use the clutch once for the leave off the line and after that shift at rpm under power. Haven't heard any mention of it here.

I have seen this done for quicker "proper" shifts and it may extend the life somewhat if you choose to not use a clutch but not using the clutch on any trans is not going to induce a long -life .

We have a face plated transmission. Similar in idea except it is very hard on transmissions. We have a custom clutch in ours and all we use it for it launching. The negatives to it out weight the positives. The clutch must be rebuilt every 40 passes, you have to adjust the clutch just about every pass and you can not drive it on the street. Not to mention this clutch costs 12 times the average. It does however give us the advantage. We have a stock gear set in the car and all we have done to it is face plating. You will spend alot of money trying to figure everything out but once you do it is well worth it. Especially since we have the quickest LS1 M6

Amber,

Are you guys using a slipper clutch like a multi disk Ram or Crower?

It is a Mcleod slipper clutch, and it is a single 10.25" disc. And it will hold 1000whp, and 10,000+RPMs.

So the reason you are able to shift clutchless with the faceplated trans, without hurting it, is because the clutch is always slipping slightly. Is that correct?

Actually, the clutch is sort of a separate issue that I'm sure they are proud of having properly dialed in. The faceplating invloves internal mods to the trans, but clutchless shifting is still very hard on parts. The setup they are running isn't just unfriendly for the street, it is pretty much unstreetable. And those clutches aren't always slipping, they have a controlled slip for launch.

Bingo. He got it just about 100% correct. It usually slips in 1-3 but completely locks up in 4th. Depends on how you dial it in but that is what we like. Also it is being rebuilt by another company that did not build it originally. We are going to try some new things. Yes it is not streetable at all and yes it is very hard on parts. Good thing we rebuild T56's

Amber,

Thanks for making that more clear. I have a faceplated T56 in my RX7, but I always graze the clutch on the shifts.
