Angry arching EVEN AFTER new wires:(

ok guys i have been trying to track down this upper RPM studder or hesitation for a year almost. I just Replaced the opti, coil with MSD blaster, fuel pump with racetronix kit, and today i put in BRAND new A/C delco wires. Ok it dawned on me to check in the dark for arcing so i did and the Taylors i had were arcing BAD. So i replaced with new GM ones as i've always had good luck with them. Well afterwards i took it out, Low and behold they STILL arch. Is there anything i can do to the wires to get them to stop? it's driving me CRAZY. i've searched and see that it is common but nobody really said what to do to fix it. I'm not getting rid of the wires now as they cost me $135 and that's rediculous.they are better then the Taylors were but still are doing it. I thought i read something about split loom on them but would that help? thanks much guys. i'd like to have this figured out tomorrow if possible so i really appreciate it

over the valve covers will solve it.

fiberglass wraps

and dielectric grease.

fiberglass wraps? like header wrap for the wires? the stock wires can't be routed over my headers and the Taylors that were routed over the top still arched. I also used dielectric grease on them today when i did them. I'll look into these wraps... anybody know where to get them and how much?

if none of that works you might benefit from taking it to a shop and having them put an ignition scope on it and looking at the patterns. You get tired of throwing parts at a problem, trust me i know.

they are 8" long they go over the boot and run up (or down) the wire to keep the primaries away from the wires.

lemme know how those wraps work out for you. that seems like a good idea, but you need to make sure the wires dont have any breaks in it. because even if the wire isnt grounding out, its not making a fully stable connection.

not sure but i know the MSD 6al ignition says not to use solid core wires with it. I found out why recently. The wire from the coil to the opti started arching on the water pump hose clamp. I made a replacer with a spare plug wire i had laying around, wrapped it in 5 layers of electrical tape. Started teh car, drove 1 lap around the cul-de-sac and it was arching again. So i went and get a set of accell super high temp spiral core wires, replaced jsut the coil to start with, and BAM no more problem wtih that. I did the driver side, but have yet to do the passenger side.

another option you might want to look into is a set of wires that has individual grounds per wire.

i wish you luck man! and let us know how those wraps work for you

yeah got the wraps today and will install them saturday morning. Hopefully they work. I could try putting my Taylor wire from my coil to the opti on as they are better the GM i assume. The GM one's are brand new so they better not be bad or i'll be back bitchin'. I was wondering about the MSD blaster and that maybe it was to high of output for the wires. I really appreciate the help guys as it's been driving me NUTS~Cole~

I've got the same problems as you do after my header install and I think I am going to try the stock aluminum shields in conjunction with the heat wrao over the boots. Mine always burn at the boot - only on the same 2 wires!

well i took the car to Virginia Beach with me for work and did the boots before i left and didn't notice the bucking and lagging anymore i think those boots have fixed it as i can't see anymore arching. It does very lightly every once in a while but not NEARLY as bad. thanks again for the boot idea
