Default forget lt1 vs. mustang whats it take to hang with a M3?

a few months before i got my 94 lt1 in august, i went for a beat run in a BMW M3. it was a straight 6 and it was sick! we could snap 2 doughnuts before you could blink and the accel was just awesome. I am not sure what it would take to match or beat the performance and stay a dd. maybe not as much as i think or maybe its serious cash. my car is basically stock it is a4 w/ 2.73, I do have a cone filter and bilstien shocks. I want 3.73 this summer maybe and a magnaflow catback. headers over the winter hopefully. i have 160k miles on my motor and it still pulls hard. that ride in the M3 is what made me pull the trigger on a cheap go fast car.

E36 M3's aren't very quick (in a straight line) as they only have ~240 CHP.

E46 is another story, 330 CHP.

rear gears, good tires, LT headers, CAI, 1.6rr, ported heads, port matched intake, custom cam grind, ignition, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, dyno tune.

with that you should beat him easly.

Buddy has an E36 M3 that I've put a hurtin on a few times. I think his quickest with exhaust and a shifter was a low 9 in the 1/8th.

CHP? >_>

Your gears are killing your poor car. Get no less than 3.42, but those 3.73 should be fun. Remember to get a 3.23+ carrier when you switch, yours won't work. Get some 26# (or 28# if they don't come in 26) Ford SVO injectors, 52mm TB (Bypassed of course), highflow cat + magnaflow or loudmouth, LT4 KM, the LT's, and if you want to the 1.6 RRs wouldn't hurt. After all that get a good tune with improved tranny line pressure and I think you'll be on par with him. If you get a stall, I wouldn't get anything more than 2000-2200.

e46 m3(330 hp one) can run high 12's stock and trap 106-107, so you will need at least all bolt ons + a cam to consistently beat him. to get close you will need a bigger stall converter, sticky tires, 3.42 or 3.73 gears, headers/cat back and cold air intake and probably a tune. that will get you in the ball park.

you will not need all the bolt ons and a cam to beat a stock m3

with 352rwhp from my ls1 ss I can beat them pretty damn good, and a good all bolt on cam lt1 should beat my ls1

When my LT1 car was stock it was trapping 102, with headers, catback and a CAI I was trapping 107

They can run high 12's but usually run mid to low 13's...105-106 mph or so.

Stall, 3.73's, good tires, CAI, exhaust and a good tune should be a nice start.

I had a M3 run me a few weeks back on the way to work. We were both rolling around 70 mph when we got on it, pretty much nose to nose, thankfully he shut down, cause of traffic up front, just as my speed limiter kicked in and killed the motor.

My car is completely stock other than 160* stat and TB bypass, leaking exhaust manifold, noisey lifter and BADLY in need of a tune up.

Stock stall is 1800, I would not go lower then 2800. Bolt on lt1s love 3000-3200 stalls.

For the M3 its not as much as you would think. Full bolt-ons, tune, suspension, and some drs and you will have him if he is stock. No need for ported heads or cam.

I beat a late 90's M3 from a stoplight once.
Both had good launches and by 90 had about 3-4 cars on him.
They have the 240hp 3.2... strong little car.
