Gen 3 - No oil used yet - 57K w/mods
Well is this weird?
I've owned the car since it was new and it now has 57k miles in 8 years. I have never added any oil to this engine between oil intervals (changes) . It simply does not use/burn any measurable crankcase oil. Catch-can is always 100% dry.
I started with Mobil 1 (4K intervals) for a few years but have changed a few years ago to cheapo Dino oil with Frame filters (6K intervals)!
The top of the engine was re-worked from the factory LS1 into an LS6 about 3 years ago (Ls6 heads, intake, roller rockers, cam, headers, etc.) When the heads were off at 41K, a neighber (Spap-On dealer) told me the hatch pattern on the cylinder walls is a sure sign of impending trouble that will likely lead to compression loss, ring failure and oil burning. This engine is 100% stock bottom end except new oil pump, timing chain!
I suppose he was all wet!

Um you should get worried when the crosshatch goes away! Tell him its not a 1960s motor and to please stay away from your engine! Ive seen LT1s that ran great well into the 200K's with crosshatch still.
On another note, my 71K 99 camaro uses no measurable oil at 3K miles either. Its been run on mobil 1 by the previous onwer and myself. My new motor will run on german castrol though.
