Default starter overcranking problem

Here's an odd one..

Every morning aka cold start, the car fires up just fine with no noise. Any warm startup when the key is turned, the car starts, but makes the noise as if I were trying to start the car again when it's already started. It does it probably 2 out of every 3 times after the car is warm. It makes that infamous "car is already started" grinding noise from the starter for about two seconds or less.

No codes are being thrown when this happens. My only guess was it was starter solenoid related, so I bought a new starter and installed it. Problem still exists.
Additional info: Battery is a red-top, less than a year old.

Any ideas?

too much voltage to the starter, or the ignition isnt cutting the voltage to the starter once you let go of the key.

I was thinking the same exact thing regarding the too much voltage. First redtop I bought had too low of cranking amps, maybe this new one has too much after it's been juiced up for the day. I'm going to go get a new one and see if that solves anything.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Never seen that before... at least caused by the battery. I would guess it was more of a bendix/soleniod issue.

my car does this sometimes, but it does it when its cold out, when its below 0 outside the starter will stay engaged for at least 5 seconds, horrible sound.
