Default MSD 40psi Fuel Pump, Would Adding It Inline Help?

I got this pump about 5-6 years ago and was GOING to use it on my my TBI Suburban but then I found out 40psi is a WEEEE too much lol So I've had it laying around doing nothing. Could I put it upstream, past the fuel filter to help along and prolong my stocks life? I'm not looking for any performance gain, just possible redundancy (like if the stock on just up and dies, at least I could limp home) and prolonging life. I'm sure my pump is stock, so 95K miles.

Yes, No, Ideas?

TY.

EDIT: OK let me refrase maybe... CAN I w/o it hurting anything?

I wouldn't worry much about the stock pump going out any day soon, I have 158k on my factory pump right now, don't know about your original question though.
