Default Problem with my crank? flywheel?

Hey all. i just finished my new engine build. but now i have run into a problem.

ok heres the deal:
flexplate is too far out that starter won't reach it.

stock 98 flexplate
stock '02 crank
'02 LS6 block
brand new starter (stock one didint reach suddenly either, then it hit the dust)

also if i flip the flexplate backwards and stick some washers behind it i can get the engine to crank over beautifully. but when put on correctly, starter won't reach the flexplate ?!

Looks like you have a longer truck based crank...

if it is the longer truck based crank, can i still use it? i really don't feel like tearing it all apart again unless i absolutely have to other choice.

I would think you could use it with a truck flexplate without issue

thanks alot. now, if i got a flat flex plate, would that still work out? like p/n 12551367 from the 6.0L ? or would that not work with my 4l60e converter/trans? seems as though i need a flat flexplate to work.
