Default cold starts = hard shifting

If my tranny oil isnt warm at all, when I shift into Drive from Park it will shift really hard.
At least that is what I think it is.
Is this normal?
any help?
Thanks!

When your car is in cold start your idle speed is a little higher which is normal and the shift from idle positions such as park or neutral or thru neutral to drive may tend to be a bit harsher
