Default LVMS Drag strip, the black hole of HP

Ran last night on 17psi and netted a 10.55 @ 131.8 on a 1.67 60' Can't seem to get the car out off the line very well, I spin through all of first gear. Need some 15" wheels, this one is pretty much out of breath. Anything over 6000 rpms and it just falls on it's face. There is a 80mm in my distant future.

I'm always amazed how people on this board manage to trap 130+ on like 10 psi of boost, but it takes a car like mine 17 psi to do the same. Las Vegas Motor Speedway is like a black hole that sucks up your horsepower. A friend that moved here from Cleveland with his ???? lost 8 MPH on average compared to what he trapped in Ohio. He went from 103 traps to 94 mph traps on 16 psi. It's so depressing. It's always funny hearing from the racers that just moved here from places like NJ where their car was running 9.90's, but will only run 10.70's here. Ok, I'm done whining now.

At least my car traps 130+ in these conditions, stockish f-bodies have trouble braking the 100mph barrier in this weather lol.

Well every +700 in DA is a tenth. When I was h/c in 2000 I ran 11.7@114 in Chicago at 700 DA and ran 12.3@109 at Bristol which was like 5000 DA and very hot.

Are you going to try to go to a different track that isn't as power robbing?? With your setup you should be closing in on low 10's if you can get the weather on your side at a track with a lower altitude...

No, unfortunately my **** keeps breaking, lol.

Im gonna do a rebuild and then plan on taking it down once I have them mount the slicks/skinnies so at least I can get a good pass in before I get booted for no cage.

And if you do Zombie, you need to let me know. I'll come up from T-town. If I don't have my car here by then, I'll just run the truck.

A group of us made the drive up to LVMS a few months ago....all our cars ran so slow it was one of the worst experiences weve had compared to our normal track (famoso 4 hrs away)

a 109 mph WS6 ran best of 103 there, another guy in a 96 cobra couldnt trap better 95mph there and another that goes 118/119 down here was going like 108-112 best..

It was horrible. But at the end of the night you're in vegas so its hard to have a bad time.

You know, i've told this to people over and over only to be called a liar or have them say that I'm turbo and it doesn't affect me lol. Thanks for posting up your experience. LVMS is a nice facility, but it's very mis managed.

Oh well, my car still runs mid 10's @ 130+

The Strip is up in the clouds. I bet running at Firebird would make a huge difference. Your setup in San Antonio or Houston would likely be in the 9s.

Going from a 7000DA to a sometimes negative DA like you can occasionally find at tracks like hrp is an enormous jump in power. I can just picture the drivetrain carnage. On the bright side, I bet the cars from vegas would never overheat.

I hear ya Zombie. I have a car that should run 12's all day but all I've managed is a shitty 13.55 @ 107 at LVMS... not that the ricers spilling antifreeze all over the lanes helps much - Point is is that thing's already fast as hell. I wonder what our cars would run at Fontucky. heheh

you know, i never thought about this...

years ago, i took a roadtrip with some friends to vegas... (from south carolina lol)

well i had my VR6 Jetta with 3 peoples luggage in the back.. it ran something like a 14.7. i was impressed, i didnt think it was that fast.....

well, i guess it was even faster when i wasnt in vegas. LOL. i wonder what it would have ran at hrp or ennis...

MrDude_1, LVMS have a big variance on DA from 1500 in winter to 7000+ in summer. Actual altitude is 2200. Depends on what time of year you ran.

Too bad you aren't here tonight, I'd take you out to the drag strip to watch the ricers bounce off the barriers, drive into the sand traps, stage with the rear wheels, etc. You could even ride shotgun on my passes, no helmet required lol.
