1000 rwhp-aluminum or iron block
Hey guys-just thinking ahead and since there are probably so many on here that can easily make these #'s or have already have-I figured you would know best. If you where to build a motor with a goal of 1000 rwhp-would you use the 6.0L aluminum block or the iron block-no LSX blocks allowed. No strokers-just a 364 or 370 max. Another thing what about the crank-stock or aftermarket.
Thanks!
Thanks!

+1 for Iron if you don't mind the extra 88lbs, that is what I picked for
my build with similar goals.
1000hp is common now with aluminum blocks, but you know things will be moving around
inside an aluminum block at that power.
I am not racing for money, so iron block for me!

Filled 364 C.I.D. W2W LS2 here. More than a few have shown what the aluminum can handle. Harlan, Mike Brown come to mind (both low 8 sec. cars). I thought I read Major Spray was an LS2 (7 sec. car)? You can make a good case for iron at the 1000 rwhp level, it surprises me though how many carry the extra weight of iron here that have 500-700 rwhp, I see no reason. The coolest thing about the LS engines and what is making them take over the SBC in street rods and other custom applications is the fact that they are full aluminum. The stock crank is another very stout piece that has shown it can hold at the 1000 rwhp level (we're not running one of those though.
