Default plastic starer cover

well for some reason the cover that goes to the block to cover the hole where the starter is was making a bad knocking niose so I cut half of it off. Is this OK or should I go and get a replacement???

i would go buy a new one asap as not having that cover leaves your flywheel right out in the open... not a good idea if you ever drive over any rocks or ****
