Detonation on stock motor (39,000 miles)
Car had detonation and an SES Light, P1416 - Check Valve. I replaced the passenger side check valve. Car still has detonation around 4000rpms when under load, and the SES light has not gone away after several cycles. The motor is completely stock with just 39,000 miles. I only use premium fuels and my tank has been refilled since I first got the light/detonation, so it wasn't that.
What the heck is going on?

Diagnosis from the GM Dealership: Clogged cats. They replaced both cats, but I've not picked the car up yet.
However, they charged me $101 for the fix. They said they cats were under 8yr/80k emissions warranty, so they were zero cost, but the testing and a new gasket to figure out the problem was the cats cost me $101. Does that make one bit of sense to anyone? A warranty part failed, yet I get charged to diagnose that....

I just got a letter in the mail on Tuesday from GM that was about a possible problem with the cats. I threw mine away since the cats from my car just sit on the side of the house. Said something about how they could fail and you may need to have them checked out. I don't think you should have been required to pay for this either.
