Default 2001 Trans Am Opinions.

Hi guys, im looking for some opinions on a 2001 Trans Am my gf and I are looking at. I own a 92' and she currently owns a 89' camaro. After spending a weekend at a car event and lots of 4th gens she now wants a Trans Am. Sooo we have been looking at some this week. We have one now that we have test drove twice from a Used Car Dealer. We talked him down to $10k and hes throwing on a set of new tires.

I test drove it for awhile and all checks out only needs 4 new tires. Everything appears in good shape, minor leaks, no wierd noises other then the driver side window which is noisy when going up or down but it works normal.

$10k for a 2001 Trans Am, 111k miles, Black on Black loaded, non WS6. Automatic. Completely Stock. Not a ding in the whole car, few minor scratches. Everything works cept like i said it needs new tires, and the ash tray is broken. Also was smoked in and needs to air out.

What do you guys think, is that a decent deal for one? Anything i should know before we get a loan from the bank this week?

I must say, this car is sweet, i love the power, the smooth powerband no cutting off TPI / TBI crap - its just great all the way through. Nice and smooth over bumps. NO RATTLES! It feels more responsive, but doesnt handle as well as my 92' Z28 but it sure would feel nice with some mods. Also needs to be a 6 speed but she wants an auto so she can drive it everyday.

So ya let me know what you guys think.

Thanks
-Steve

Kinda high on the miles. I'd try go get them to go a little lower on the price.

Move on! That car not only smells of smoke but of a potential 'money pit'. Way too many nice ones out there. The prior owner almost sounds like he used it up as much as possible, then dumped it. Any maintenance records with the car? You don't need that one.

A week ago or so, I picked up a black on black '99 T/A that basically matches the description of your potential car, but with only 64K on it. Before taxes and whatnot I paid $9K for it, so I would keep looking or try to bring the price down even more. What does Edmund's or Kelley Blue Book value the car at?Oh, and my car's previous owner didn't smoke, but my ashtray was broken too. Wierd...

Alright, 99 T/A Black with grey interior. 74k miles. Never smoked in. Fully loaded about the same as the other T/A we looked at. This one has no problems what so ever. SLP air lid, exhaust she thinks is louder then stock. My gf drove it today, i have yet to see it but will be looking at it monday. Tires are 5k miles old. Car is like new she says. Another broken ash tray car that has never been smoked in!

Hes asking 12k.

Bluebook on the car says $9,900.

What would you guys offer. Tell you what... people want a lot for these cars around here.

^^ Bluebook, $12k is cocky for that car. Bluebook sounds fair.

Well, I also think that these cars are starting to move into "collector" car category, pricewise, which is why some of these cars are starting to get ridiculous.

Ok, and just what the hell is going on with the ashtrays? Lol...

To be honest that is really high milage for that sort of money, especially for a non WS6 model. I managed to rope my WS6 in excellent shape with similar milage for $6500. Mine came with a hell of alot of mods (LTs,ORY, Catback, gears, shiftkit, lid, LS6 intake, Z06's) and a beautiful interior, however I believe my car may be the exception, not the rule. The paint on your car sounds better then mine, however it is all relative. Shop around and see what you can find. Keep in mind this is a dealership selling it so they are always going to be higher than buying from a private individual. One thing I will say at this point I do not see LS1 cars taking too much more of a hit in price, unlike thirdgens (which I have owned a few) these cars come with significantly higher performance power plants and tend to be more in tune with what people want in terms of performance and handling from the factory, along with modern comforts. Just keep your eyes open and you will likely score a deal, just have to take your time accordingly. However if this is what you want, then go for it, keep in mind that having it now may cost you more ultimately where as searching can net you a car with lower milage and decent mods for a similar monetary input. Good luck whatever your choice is!

my suggestion would be to just wait and see if something else comes up for sale with lower miles. surely you can find something
