T56 Rebuild Cost
I was kinda wondering what everyone in here has payed for theirs. I am rather pissed cause today i found out i wasnt going to get my car back and that the rebuild is costing me 1,650 bucks. There just replacing parts to make it stock and they told me it wouldnt be more than 1100 so im not in a great mood. So anyways whats most of you paid for your tranny rebuild.

That is about what a trans shop would charge rebuild removed & installed.
most smaller places also just inspect & price once they have it apart.
Then they know what parts they need to rebuild it.

Sounds expensive. I know don't for sure because maybe the T56 is a bit more expensive but my mom had her 5-speed rebuilt in her '92 Altima and a clutch replacement for ~$1300 at a transmission shop.

A repair shop in hays kansas which is about 30 miles from me. I am suppose to get it back today and i talked to a guy about making some kind of deal but he said i had to talk to the owner about that and he apoligized to me. So hopefully i will get it a little cheaper but i dont know yet i got to call them in a couple of hours to find out. Hopefully they will give me a good deal or a better warranty one of the two.

I paid $1400 w/out the clutch job. The place I went to was a Gibralter Transmissions. They were incompetent and just plain old stupid. It took them well over a month to do the whole job, gave me a scratch and I still don't like how it feels. I got screwed. I would so much rather have paid a couple hundred dollars more, to get it done right.

they are one of the most reputable shops around, they build trannys for some top guys, if they were a sponsor i would tell you but they are not, but im sure you can figure it out because they are very well known

WOW! maybe I should start rebuilding t56s on the side. IT should not cost anyware near that much unless they are replacing some major parts like output shaft, cluster gear, gears ect. even then the gears are not too bad in price. I rebuilt some lt1 t56s and although they can be a bit more intailed vs the old 5-speeds they don't take that long to fix. I just can't belive they are charging that much. tell you what for that much money and parts in hand 24hr TOPs and that car should be on the road with out rushing the rebuild.
