spring removal off of car
ok so im having this problem where my heads are off the car and im trying to remove the springs but the valves keep opening what do i need to do to keep them closed?

if you are talking about valve springs they sell a tool to take them off it has this thing that you screw up to the valves and it holds them there while you put the springs down to get the keepers off.

All you need to do is put a small socket under the valve (or something of similiar size). That'll prevent the valve from going down. You'll have to put some weight on the head too. I've been using the Moore spring compressor tool and that's what I do and it works like a charm. It's a POS though...I've used it on about 3 spring swaps and it's already warped and literally falling apart.

It's not big deal if the valve opens. Just sit the head on the bench with the chambers face down. Once you have the spring compressed, just tap the retainer with an extension and a hammer. That'll pop the keys loose.
