my car has a 396 stroker crank, and a slipping clutch. When driving if i get on it hard and the clutch slips, the engine kills and starts backfiring pretty loud. All i have to do is start it back up and everything is fine. could this be a safety feature of the crankshaft position sensor??? Thats what i was told by the person who done the engine work, he said once i change the clutch everything would be fine, he says that it senses the crank revving too fast so it kills engine so no damage will be done. has anyone ever heard this, or know what might be causing this?

Get a different clutch....it seems that what's really causing the issue.

I have the same problem. I am wondering if it could be the crank position sensor.

I had that same crap happen to mine and it was the CPS. And I had no SES light...but a scan showed it. Change it, its cheap and takes a matter of minutes to do.

Just go to the dealer for the sensor if you're in a hurry, although they are sold at Advance Auto and other places too. Cheapest place, www.rockauto.com sells factory A/C Delco CPS for $38.00. Unbolt your starter and let it hang, the CPS is right there.
