Default What is the "BEST" radar detector

I have a radar detector that I bought from Radio Shack like 3-4 years ago. It doesnt seem to be doing its job....I just got a ticket yesterday!! Also got one about two months ago, **** is ridiculous. Just curious what you guys are using or have some advice on what is the best out there.

i think there is a thread on here about this. I know there are websites that do tests, but they always seem biased for one. From what i remember Valentine1 has been around a LONG time and has stayed top of the list. then there is one called "passport" or something similar. good luck

radars are bullshit... my buddy is a cop and i went drivin with him one time and he showed me that he clicks his radar on and off real fast and the radars never pick it up. they only work when the cops leave them on and he said the station is teaching them to jus flick it on and off so the radars dont pick it up

I've had a Valentine One for almost eight years. I'm very happy with the unit, but then I understand its limitations.

Of course law enforcement has tactics to minimize detection. Only a fool would think that a detector is fool-proof. Detectors are only one part of the approach to avoiding speeding tickets. One needs to scan websites for patrol patterns, listen in on CB and scanners, etc.

The thing I find most helpful: driving on a track!

^ any site that sells MAINLY the products the story is about, is usually biased. it is more factual when a site does a group test, but does it out of pure "i want to know", and they are not sellers of any products.

On my V1, I've gotten warnings (I pay attention only after the third dot lights up) over a mile out on the NYThruway. (40 seconds or less, at 90mph.)

I love my V1, havn't gotten a ticket with it yet (~knock on wood~). I went from Midland to San Antonio with it this past weekend cruising on IH10 at 90-95 for literally 150 miles or so and saw a few cops but none saw me .

As has been said, they're not a "sure way outa tickets" just another tool to help avoid them.

Ive got a V1 and love it. A simple search would bring up a dozen topics with all the same results. Valentine 1 and the Passport 8500 X50 (havent looked in a while but i belive the 9500 are close to comming out, if not already out) are the top 2 on the market today. Both great detectors but i fell towards the V1 due to it being upgradeable, bogey counter, and other various options.

Yeah I have searched around and found some good topics. The V1 seems to get some good reviews. So is the 9500 better then the V1? You mentioned the V1 is upgradeable...how is that, what all can you do?

dont waste your money on anything but a valentine, and thats not a waste. trust me. i have driven with passports, bells, cobras... you name it. the v1 honestly pwns them all. the arrows, strenght, counter... everything is so far superior including the product quality. be safe to an extent on hte highway tho... unless youre alone. then go all out
