Default questions about getting a tune and cam

Hi i just purchased a 99 LS1 F-body. Ive been wanting a LS1 F-body for about a 8 months now, so I saved up and now i got one. Im not really into being EXREMELY fast but I do enjoy going fast from time to time or I obviously wouldnt have bought a car like this. But i was to get a cam. I hear other LS1 f bodys that have a cam and it sounds literally amazing IMO. So I got a few questions i hope some of you Ls1 freaks can anwser for me.

1. If I get a cam installed what types deliever the best sound?
2. Do I need supporting mods installed as well or can it be cam only and still sound the same?
3. Will i have to do anything to my suspension?
4. Will getting a cam just completly "F" me over hard on gas?
5. How much does a tune cost, and do I really need one. I mean i got a little money but i don't want to waist it on uneeded stuff.

i plan on doing this stuff tomorrow morning, thanks in advance for all the help. sorry i just didnt search the forum to find all of my questions out but i barely have enough time to post this.

Need more info....

If you have an automatic you will have to have a stall.
You NEED some supporting mods like headers, exhaust, lid, etc...

Also need more of an idea as to what you will be doing with the car and what you are expecting from this. The "sound" is just a secondary effect and really isn't a sane approach when used alone to make a selection.

This post belongs in internals as well fwiw

This should be moved to the Internal forum, but I'll help ya...

Take a look here:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/327734-cam-guide.html

This should answer alot of your questions, already. And like Frost has mentioned, you REALLY SHOULD do your supporting mods FIRST, then do the cam. Supporting mods being:

Converter and gears (matched to the cam you are interested in)
Intake
Headers, Y-Pipe, catback
Lid
Free mods... hey.. there free
Suspension

Not necessarily in that order and this list is not all inclusive.

Your gas milage may suffer with a cam swap (especially when you are in it alot ), but a good tune can fix some of that. The price of a good tune will vary from shop to shop. But in a nutshell...yes... you will ultimately need one.

Dude, you have to do at least SOME of this research yourself... It's all here; just read.

I'm DEFINITELY not rich, and that's part of why I'm smart enough to do my own research instead of being spoon-fed like an infant; I don't have it to waste.

A minute ago I would have still taken time out from MY work to help out. Have fun f@#%ing up your car on your own though.
